There is only one word which describes Ekta Kapoors contribution to television, and that is - zilch. Right from her very first serial to the dozens that are on air today on various channels ( and surprisingly enjoying high TRP ratings ), these soaps have done only one thing - an insult to ones intelligence.
Apparently started with the aim to depict the traditional family values ( keeping in mind the importance given to family in Indian culture ) for the viewers and further enhance these values in them, all that the barrage of serials promote today is a mix of questionable values and undefined morals. The entertainment being dished out in them can appeal only to the dumbest of viewers.
From Kyunki ....... to Kkusum, each and every serial is choc-o-bloc with vamps ( nicely dressed up ) hell bent on disrupting the family peace. All that these she-devils know and are capable of, is how to make life difficult for the males and the female protagonists in the story. They spend their entire lives deriving orgasmic pleasure from their daily successes of plots and sub-plots. And surprisingly, these shady characters who seemingly have been successful at nothing else but only marrying into traditionally rich families, succeed easily in their tactics against the hard-working and entrepreneurial males.
Then there are those heroines, the central leads in the story, shown possessing all the virtues in this world, which in reality are nothing but vices. Shown to be the unifying influence in the family, the ever-forgiving, the self-pitying; to the reasoning mind the Tulsis and the Kkusums are nothing more than mere doormats. Careening between dealing with their philandering husbands on one side and confronting those stygian-eyed vamps on the other, they spend their miserable lives synpathising their void selves.
And these bahus are supposed to be the role models for the great Indian middle-class.In an age where more and more educated and industrious Indian women are making their mark in diverse fileds, Ms. Kapoor wants us to buy the above mentioned illusion of an ideal woman, while she goes on to become the ?Asian Businesswoman of the year ?. Did some one say female empowerment ? Well here is a fitting case for those women rights activists to sue Ms. Kapoor.
And again there are the males, who by now have mastered the art of adultery and promiscuity to such a degree, that most Hollywood playboys would get a complex. And when confronted by their wives about their nefarious activities, the confused souls ( most of whom are at the helm of successful, globally-recognised Bussinesses ) wonder to themselves why did they do it in the first place? No wonder the vamps out-think and out-do them.
To sum it up all, far from serving anything constructive to the television industry, she has acted as the intellectual saboteur trying to pervert the psyche of an entire community. If India has to continue ?shining?, and if the ?feel-good? sentiment has to be maintained, Ms. Kapoor?s ?creative? works have to be banned forever.
