The Kyunki...saga..(sniff!)

Move over Devdas bhai… and also take Paro and Chandramukhi with you. Step in: Tulsi. Mihir. Mandira. This latest, sensational case of pati, patni or woh, (even though deva & paro were not pati and patni!), has gripped the already boggled minds of all those TV serial watchers, who, every night without fail sit in front of the idiot box with a box of Kleenex! For those lucky few, who do not know what I’m talking about, here’s a little insight.

Ms Ekta Kapoor, the queen of tear-jerking sitcoms, three years ago, probably woke up with this brainstorm one morning (curse that day!) of starting a so called saga about saas’ and their beloved bahus regular tu tu main main’s! Apart from the mother-in-laws and daughter-in-laws of course, there are these hordes of other family members, who for some reason seem to give a damn about the government’s population policies! Well, you will know what I mean if you take a look at the ‘Virani parivaar, ’ the rulers of Star Plus’ tragedy filled serials and the leads of the drag-of-a- soap called ‘Kyunki Saas bhi kabhi Bahu thi.’ Of course, we hear now, that this soap is no longer India’s No.1 (thank God for that!) and I should mention that I have given up watching this serial about a week ago (applause!!) and this review is based on the episodes that I viewed for about 2-3 months, though I picked up, from a regular, ‘harassed, ’ viewer, bits and pieces of the story that was aired before too.

Well, now coming back to our current love triangle, which we can understand using simple tools of algebra, which goes in the lines of- A loves B and B loves A, but C loves A too….so what’s the end result? Answer: A viewer who’s in desperate need of an Anacin! To make things a bit clearer: Mihir Virani, the all-good-doer and the apple of everyone’s eye, finds himself engulfed between his one and only sweet heart wife, Tulsi, (who happens to be the other apple of everyone’s   remaining eye) and pretending-sick-to-get-hold-of-dream-man Mandira, who coolly fantasizes wedding our father-of-three hero! And of course, did I mention…the aware-of-nothing Viranis and Mandira’s devoted brother, Anupam, have faithfully been conducting dear old Mandira’s death anniversary for the last 22 years!

So, a fine shock it was indeed, when Tulsi discovered hubby dearest in the arms of the supposed-to-be-dead woman, whom she anyways despised, in the good old days, when Mandira was officially alive! Anyways, Mihir’s frantic explanations about helping a sick woman to her senses and ‘insaaniyat ke naam pe’ stories went unheard. The Ram-like son of the house faced a Ram-like exile! Things got worse when Karan Mehta, a very good friend of the generation-3 Viranis, one fine day declared himself as Karan Virani - son of Mihir & Mandira! How everyone cried and cried…. and made the viewers cry too-in disgust! Series of tragedies followed- Mihir, of course, gentleman-like, volunteered to move out of the house, the Virani mansion was flooded with tears… Shobha, daughter of already half-dead Tulsi, sent another thunderbolt by losing her yet to be born child, soon after she heard of her Dad’s unbelievable story from her cranky Mom and attempted to storm out of the room, only to trip and fall over….Sigh! More to come….Payal, Tulsi’s arch rival and also, amazingly, Shobha’s mother-in-law, found this a perfect time to destroy the already choked Viranis! Karan, who wanted all of his Mom’s overwhelming dreams to come true, added salt to the wounds and brought down the famous Virani Industries and… Blah Blah Blah…the list goes on and on…

The same old story line (if you can call it a story) went on for weeks….Believe me, even if you went on a holiday and resumed watching the program after about two weeks…you would have missed nothing! It’s a downright drag! So, in an attempt to pull back a few viewers I think, the plot took a big turn, when thrown out and trampled upon Mihir, actually turned out to be a smartie when he performed a la Sherlock and had Mandira all cornered, on her big wedding day! Before that of course, Mihir here, did an act of inviting his Tulsi and the other members of his family to his wedding with Mandira! Tch Tch! So, to hold true the statement, ‘Alls well that ends well, ’ Mihir was hero again..well almost… Tulsi, still couldn’t get over her “25 years of treachery” dialogue and so Mihir has yet to win over Tulsi! If you want to know what happens further, I’m sorry, I couldn’t bear to watch this anymore, for the latest story being the death of Tulsi’s bahu, Teesha and her yet to be born kid (again!!) and yeah…. Mandira is dead too (this time for real!) The episode showing the last rites of these two was unbearable, what with Gautam (Teesha’s husband) and Karan locking horns…someone just died for gods sake!! More tears…and more tears…well at least Kleenex manufacturers won’t mind!

P.S.- Hey ppl, this happens to be my first rev here on ms..so please pardon my errors!! N yeah..I’m a fresher..so u can rag me all u like..ONLY through ur suggestions n comments! (lol!)..Thanks for reading (if u did read it that is!)..Signing off,

Sinz
