Before you read this review, let me make something clear:
This was actually a angry letter I had shot out to Mid Day, somewhere in May, when I didnt know about Mouth Shut.
I had a weak hope that my letter will be printed at that time. Today, I think that EK has almost bought Mid Day, (Read the List some day.)
Anyway, this was my unprinted letter:
Here is another interesting criticism of the cult series KSBKBT, close on the heels of the Testing syndrome that Ekta was suffering from.
Of course, she is so high and mighty that even all the women’s organization didnt get an apology from her, mayeb she’s just too busy to take into account her misdeeds and errors..
Anyways, somewhere around the Episode 720 - 735, there’s this angle of a Punjabi girl marrying into the RICH CULTURED INDIAN TRADITIONAL VIRANI FAMILY.
In the seven hundreth and thirty third episode, there is a one minute long, senseless scene which shows that the girl has left all her punjabi trappings and has become a true (read submissive cow parcelled from some hot and mud caked village) Gujarati daughter-in-law, by preparing gujrati dishes for the entire family.
Excuse me! Wih the current scene of relatives killing inter caste married people, didnt Ekta tread on dangerous ground? Does it mean that a woman has to change her entirely just because she has married in the RICH CULTURED TRADTIONAL INDIAN VIRANI FAMILY?
Does Ekta not have to answer to any moralities or ethics just because her warped and inspired programs cater to some warped sect logics and blatant chauvinism?
Is she so busy gloating over the money that she earns that she doesnt have a single moment to go through the thread of the script, or is she so bored from these chauvinistic serials that she yucks at the scenes, just like we educated, intelligent and sane men do?
This is clearly a case of high handedness on her part. Of course, one can just switch of one’s television when such warped logic goes on, but remember guys, these things carry all around to the Big Apple.
We are again and again lashed with another warped ( sorry about using that word again and again, but this is a family newspaper) about Tulsi having an illgetimate child, and before that five episodes were dedicated to Tulsi being cleansed from the accusation that she spent some time with another man.
Damn it! What about the millions of men in real life and reel life hounding it out other women? Has the newly appointed keeper of Indian traditions ever shown that man being questioned, humiliated?
What is fashion to show that women are submissive cows? Does it give out the right signals to the girls and women who are at the cusp of their new lives in schools, colleges, and various other educational instutions apart from recipe classes?
Granted that our culture wants our women to be a bit obedient or submissive, but that doesnt mean that someone has a right to bombard our senses with these warped and jaundiced views all through the day and night.
I, a sane male adult do hereby proclaim that I am sick and tired of these soaps, and that nothing, bloody nothing like this happens in any of the families that I know, and I live in Mumbai, India, in a predominantly Hindu area which doesnt have more Maharastrians and Punjabi.
So stop filling your coffers with dollars telling that this is the true face of India! India is not what one warped producer wants to show! If you ever have the guts to show true India, go out in the streets and show what fighting spirit every man and woman in India has, and dont resign the new women of the world to slavery to men.
The women’s organization, which takes up cudgels about the commodification of women, should take some time off and watch one single half and hour episode of this program.
They should watch scenes where Tulsi is accused of being a loose woman, where DNA reports are thrashed around like paper balls, and all at the behest of women. Doesnt a woman have a right to keep it a secret whether her child is her own?
`There is a an interesting concept in the West, that of GOR, which is based on the twenty seven novels of John Norman. These novels worked because the concept was simple..
All women are slaves and all Men are Masters.
Of course, there are many more interesting concepts in these novels, but then this is a family newspaper. This concept of life is predominant on the Internet and IRC.
These twenty first century serials reek of this same concept, and it shames me to know that these novels were originally conceived after going throught the Indian cultures and traditions.
Something.. has.. to.. be.. done..
The men in these serials are always loving and caring, whereas there are only two faces of women, either the scheming or the humble cows waiting to be either milked or parceled off in a red box to their in -laws place, where they will live till their death, or die till their nirvana from the curse of being born or being married into the RICH TRADITIONAL CULTURED INDIAN VIRANI FAMILY.
Dont the actors feel ashamed or embaressed of the various concepts of the serials, or has money gained such power that these small time actors have developed a thick hide, from which all logics and thoughts bounce off. except for ACTION!
Please, this is a sincere request of a sane Indian man, who doesnt want his country to be painted in such a jaundiced color.
Please Mid- day, I beg you, please print this letter, please, this is a final try of a indian who is hoping to bring back some sanity in the Media, please.. please.. please
