Aamir Khans first production is a surefire winner. The team has performed superbly in all the departments of acting, story, script, dialogues, picturisation, costumes, art-direction, cinematography, lyrics, music, songs, choreography, dances... everything is good. Aamir has extracted best performances from all the players like a perfect Captain.
So complete a movie, good in all departments, has graced the Hindi film screen after a long long time, maybe, the first after Sholay, before Sholay, there were Mother India, Mughal-e-azam, Naya Daur and Ganga-Jamuna, I have no hestiation in placing this movie in same category as above mentioned movies.
Its an incredibly interesting story that makes the entire audience participate, every inch of the way, the tight screenplay keeps you on tenterhooks as if you are watching World Cup finals between India and Pakistan!! The story has so far not been leaked, I wont leak it either. Its a take off on Naya Daur in a modern context, more appealing to modern cinegoers.
The music album, listened to in isolation, has its flaws, is less than perfect, BUT, when you see the movie, Rahman has done a splendid job!!, even the insipid Ö Palanharehas been picturised so well> I am modifying and editing my review of the album after having seen the film.
The incredible audience of Bangalore, who participate in the movie, so loudly, so vocally, and so enthusiastically is unbelievable! You feel as if you are in a Stadium rather than in a cinema hall.
I rarely go to a cinema hall to watch a movie, this time I went, after years, my kids dragged me, I am grateful to them, for I had a wonderful time in a cinema hall after a long long time.
Full marks to Aamir Khan, I hope he shows up at the Award functions that will surely be waiting.
