I am not kiddin....Lagaan is one of the BEST and OSCAR WORTHY films I have ever seen.....u will understand what I am saying I uve already seen it.
This movie, according to me is the only one that really deserved to go to the Oscars....I have seen the other contenders like Aks, Asoka, Ek Rishtaa, and believe me, they are noway comparable whichever way you look at it, to this MASTERPIECE..
The biggest advantage in Lagaan is that it has an amazing story to back the performances and the screenplay, according to me is one of the best(ofcourse, DCH also counts as another one) one has seen in recent times. Unlike the movies we see today, it has many layers(example:the love story, the cricket match, the rivalry between the villagers and British, the villagers learning cricket) which are beautifully executed by director Ashutosh Govarikar.
The story is quite inventive and one would initially laugh over it, but on seeing it u will be BOWLED OVER!!!
There are no faults what so ever in this movie. I can confidently say that the length is not a problem or a flaw, because u are so engrossed in the proceedings that u dont realise the time has passed.
As far as the awards are concerned, LAGAAN has a LOT going for it....like:
Ashutosh Govarikar is the leading contender for the Best Director and Best Story, Screenplay Award, and I am sure A.R.Rahman WILL get the award for Best Music as well as Background Score(which is the best ever), same for Bhanu Athaiya with the costumes, but Anil Mehta may lose out to Ravi Chandran who did a fantabulous job in DCH. Not to worry, as Aamir Khan is all set to get the Best Actor Award, and Nitin Desai will give K3G and DCH stiff competition as far as Art Direction is concerned.
All in all, a BRILLIANT MOVIE and best wishes to Ashutosh and Aamir to retain their winning combination and coming up with more LAGAANS!!!!
