Bindas concept! Bindas script! And, a very original entertainer. It would be incorrect to call the movie a sequel to the earlier Munnabhai Movie. It would be apt to call it another Munnabhai Outing aka episode.
Munnabhai (Sanjay Dutt) is smitten by the voice of Radio Jockey (RJ), Jahanvi (Vidya Balan - she looks great and no hangover of Parineeta image). The RJ announces a quiz contest on Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of his birth anniversary - 2nd October; the prize - winner gets to meet Jahanvi on a radio interview. How can Munnabhai let this opportunity go? Thus he lifts a handful of professors/teachers who give him the answers to the questions put by the RJ. In this he is assisted by his henchman Circuit ( Arshad Warsi). He wins the quiz show and in the interview introduces himself as a Professor. Thus, begin his woes. Jahanvi invites Munnabhai to deliver a lecture on the Mahatama to a group of oldies who are her fathers friends and who live in a big house which is eyed by the scheming builder Lucky Singh (Boman Irani - in a very convincing and hilarious portrayal). Now what would Munnabhai do...?
Hit the Library on the Mahatama, the only way out advises Circuit, his hands thrown up helplessly. Thus begins a continuous study on the life of the Mahatama with a very endearing song in the background " Bande me tha Dum....". And Lo! the Mahatama appears before Munnabhai......a miracle or a "chemical locha". There is the Mahatama willing to help out Munnabhai his only wish that Munnabhai follows the principles of the Mahatama. Thereafter emerges the concept of "Gandhigiri-the principles of the Mahatama" that Munnabhai uses to solve daily problems and the problem of his lady love. The outcome is both touching and hilarious.
Sanjay Dutt gives another good performance. Vidya Balan is refres....shing and Boman Irani is as always, wonderful lending a touch of sardonic humour to his characters but still managing to make them endearing towards the end. Arshad Warsi seems to have gone overboard in his portrayal of Circuit. Yes, he was more spontaneous in the earlier movie. The hero of the movie is undoubtedly the script, a very original script in recent times.
However, despite the movie being really good for its concept and the effect that it does seem to be having on the society in general....., the earlier movie scores better in terms of fun quotient.
The songs are good..."Pal..pal.." is very refreshing...almost like dew drops.
Over all a very wholesome entertainer. Enjoy it.
