Bellyfull of Laughs

After seeing this flick, I asked myself what is it about this movie that I loved so much... especially after watching KANK last week which almost made me swear off hindi movies ! Read on...

Plot:

Munna loves RJ Jhanvi although he has not seen her. Enter Circuit who helps him win the Gandhi contest on-air so Munna can get to meet his lady love. Jhanvi is impressed and promptly invites Munna aka Prof. Murali Sharma to her home for a lecture on Mahatma Gandhi. This sends Munna into a tizzy as he does not know anything about Gandhiji except that he is the person on our currency notes.

What happens next is sheer brilliance!!! Gandhiji himself appears before a confused Munna and promises to help him. Also thrown into this mix is Lucky, a builder Munna thinks is his friend,   who wants the same property where Jhanvi’s grandfathers friends are spending their ’2nd Innings’ in life. Their paths cross but instead of fireworks what follows is Gandhigiri style of winning battles.

Cast:

Can anyone ever accept anyone else than Sunjay Dutt as Munnabhai in this role ? He seems born for this one... the swagger, the smiles, the golden heart... AWESOME!

Arshad Warsi as Circuit is on par with Sunjay every step of the way. Watch those scenes where he makes up with Munna after the slap... in fact, theres not one scene where hes not good!

Vidya Balan as Jhanvi is refreshing and the kind of girl any guy would fall for and take home to mama :D Although she does not have much screen time, she delivers!

Boman Irani as Lucky Singh has come full circle with this film. He was noticed after the first film and then went on to other forgettable roles until this one. He’s a delight to watch and makes sure that his sardar role is not a caricature!

Dilip Prabhawalkar as Gandhi - hes the finest actor in Marathi theater and he shows why!

Jimmy Shergill, Dia Mirza, The elderly gents, and the other characters have short roles but perform well.

Music:

’Lage Raho’, ’Pal Pal’ & ’Samjho Ho Hi Gaya’ are well placed in the film and the picturisation is so good that they do not feel like speed breakers.

To sum it up, the BEST movie I have seen this year. The audience I watched it with cheered, clapped, cried and left the movie with wide smiles :D This movie has its heart in the right place !
