Rajkumar Santoshi?s tribute to Indian womanhood. Though mixed with flamboyance for public taste, still the movie sparkles in the hero centred Hindi film industry. As already told the film is a journey through a woman ? from being vulnerable to the incarnation of Sakthi. And Lajja is the unwanted dupatta to be left away for that process.
The four Sitas? Vaidehi (Manisha) Maithali (Mahima Chaudhary) Janaki (Madhuri Dixit) Ram Dulari (Rekha) were doing justice to their roles to the core. And Madhuri?s performance is a text book for future heroines ? how to act effectively and subtly. Never had she shown any symptoms of overacting.
The film starts with Vaidehi in New York and ends with in a small village Northern India. The whole film is how and in what circumstances Vaidehi meets different women and grows through her experiences. The film shows the darker raghu (jackie shroff) purshottam (Tinnu Anand) Gajendra Babu (Danny denzongpa)as well as the brighter side of men the thief (anil kapoor) & the dacoit(Ajay Devgun). But, what about darker side of women? They can raise to perfection ? either epitome of goodness or the ultimate devil.
And I became a fan of Ajay with this film. With a role of few minutes how he handled the emotions to the perfecton! He is brilliant in each and every scene they give. Rajkumar Santoshi is one of the best bollywood directors we have. He has his own way of telling stories. We are expecting more from him.
