Aimlessly yours - Lakshya

Saw the much-hyped Farhan Akhtar directed ?Lakshya? last night and went into a state of shock. Not so much at the latter being a lavish disaster but because it helped me realize that power that glitterati has over the intelligence and objectivity of journalists like yourself.

I am not ashamed to admit that the numbers of movies I have seen in the past are directly proportional to the number of stars it gets in the Sunday times because they appeal to an intelligent audiences? intellect (not opinion).

You may be saying that my uninhibited kudos should go to the makers of the film and not to the tired evaluator who pens his opinion. Well before the other readers think that I belong to the anti Hrithik Roshan or Farhan Akhtar group (or whatever they may call it),

I have truly enjoyed the latter?s debut Dil Chahta Hai which appealed to my 30 something yuppie city bred sensibilities and I also believe that Hrithik Roshan is a very talented actor (one helluva dancer at that) but this film is anything but a tribute to their capabilities or the audience sensibilities! And shame on you media crusaders on wah-wahing their bad product.

Agreed the film is not about a war but about the crusader?s personal goal, so it does not even try to match up to an honestly made Prahaar or a heart wrenching Border. But it has nothing absolutely nothing to tug at the heartstrings of the audience. Must hand it to the technicians for expertly handled war scenes and beautifully shot Ladakh locales but there is so much more harm done otherwise by wasting usually dependable actors like Preity Zeinta (the lead pair get all sentimental in the middle of an attack!) and Amitabh Bachchan.(will someone please tell him that he is overdoing everything)

The music is MEDIOCRE other than two songs that have nothing to add to the film

Javed Akhtar has done a really bad job at the story, which is further marred by his son?s numb direction (probably the cold heights and continuous adulation had something to do with it). Last but not the least our media (radio, TV, print, web ?.) brethren have had a field day epitomizing a bad film. You may/not make or break a film with your reviews but you are definitely responsible for spoiling a good director and actor by hailing their bad work so they continue to stand by YOUR standards and not THEIR Own.

If the audience is capable enough to sideline a government that will mislead them then they can definitely boot a seriously biased media jury.

Straighten up journos, audiences are not stupid!
