There are few people who are sincere about there attitude...Farhan Akhtar has loads of it and flashes it well. In the context of Bollywood, for good music the credit should go equally to Music Director as well as Producer/Director. We see Anu Mallik churning out trash till a J.P. Dutta comes and wakes him up. We see Ismail Darbar doing music for unknown movies till Sanjay Leela Bhansali says dude its time for some real stuff. So here, Farhan gets the stuff done and Shankar Ehsaan Loy are made to churn out some good music. (I beg to differ with people calling Kal Ho Na Ho ’s music - good )
Lakshya’s Music essentialy gives the feel of the movie and the chart topper Main Aaisa Kyon Hoon is a real gem. As comparisions are inevitable, let me take the liberty to compare it with ’’Koi Kahe Kehta Rahe’’ - DCH. Both songs create a smillar kind of curiosity about the characters and both have that zing in them. Its a lazy one this time with a genuinely different choreography and picturisation elevating Shaan’s Effort.
Kandhon Se Milte Hain Kandhe - Shankar Mahadevan, Sonu Nigam, Hariharan, Roop Kumar Rathod, Kunal Ga is my personal favourite, I liked it instantly. It’s a patriotic one but with a difference. Composition keeps it away from falling on the typical Border/LOC(both were great) music and still gives the high. Lyrics do the trick this time. The initial jingle is very hummable. Awesome track. Bet the pictarisation would elevate the song further.
Agar Main Kahoon - Alka Yagnik, Udit Narayan is a naughty IF Then Else loop track on the lines of Jaane Kyon - DCH . Seasoned Udit and Alka makes it hummable. Would be highly accepted in masses. Easy lyrics and catchy tunes. Good use of guitar.
Kitni Baatein - Sadhana Sargam, Hariharan , a slow one ...on the sad side. More looks A.R.Rehmanisque. good Lyrics.
Lakshya - Shankar Mahadevan Effort half baked. Could have been a gem. Fall short of it. Somehow Shankar overdoes it. Personally I feel Udit or Sonu could have done justice to this one. Lyrics are very good.The title song certainly could have been a better mould.
Kitni Baatein (Reprise) - Sadhana Sargam, Hariharan Same track, a bit slower.
Separation - Instrumental Beautiful. Instrumental Track and shows what Shankar Ehsaan Loy can do with Piano.
The music will gain more popularity once the movie is released.
On the Boxoffice, It will be hard path to follow for Farhan after the stupendous success of DCH, considering the war backdrop of the movie, at the times when borders are becoming membranes.
Three cheers for sticking to one’s conviction.
