I visited Little Italy on my birthday. This restaurant was on my wish list for a long time, and I was really looking forward to having dinner at this place.
Our very first disappointment was noticing that there was no meat on the menu. With a sinking heart I considered the possibility that this was either a pure veg. restaurant or that they had a different menu for non. veg. I confirmed my fear with a waiter who informed me that the chain of restaurants was Jain owned and hence no meat. Fair enough I though, knowing that the Jain community is purely vegetarian. But what really beats me was their decision to run an Italian chain of restaurants!!
To keep up with the odd mix and match they also serve Mexican on the menu and a large chunk of their staff is oriental looking. It seemed to me that if they wanted authenticity in the staff they could have got in some Italian looking bunch or hey if you’re not going to get some Italians in here, why not our local Mumbai folks? Why bother trying to get a oriental looking staff when you are not running a Chinese/Thai restaurant?? And what is Mexican food doing on this menu?
On the plus side, the vegetarian fare they were serving was pretty good – but you simply can’t go Italian without some good ‘ol chicken! Those Italians really know how to cook them chicken – but don’t try finding it at any of the Little Italy restaurants.
