Lonavala rocks!!! Being a typical city type Im fed up of the sound of traffic, sirens, horns at all times of the day or night.Sometimes I feel like jumping right into a wailing ambulance and lying down next to the patient. So when I went to Lonavala I thought Id died n gone to heaven. What with the hillsides covered with lush greenery and those mists!!I distinctly remember the way the mists entered the car and I thought this is how the clouds smell...so clean and pristine somehow.
Having travelled a fair part of india including kashmir plus a few overseas countries recently , I feel Lonavala definitely ranks among the WOW!! destinations.Especially the tunnels on the expressway, those are world class.People today prefer quiet places, away from the crowds n traffic noises. SO BEWARE of checking into hotels that are located bang on the highway or on the shoulder of the road, unless you wanna lie awake all night listening to the screeching & yodelling horns of lorries/trucks.Even my dad whos normally a sound sleeper(read sleeps like a log)was jolted awake by a particularly merry trucker going honk- honk-HONKKKK at 2 a.m. I always prefer quiet hotels, and lemme assure you such things do exist, just not slapbang on the main road. Lonavala has lots of hotels nestled within its folds, I personally prefer old world charm to the box type ugly hotel buildings they build these days.
Lets hope they dont commercialize this pretty hill station too much, what with the celebs and stars all making it their watering hole. But then every bodys stressed out , star or common man.Lonavala seems to be the rite place to destress especially since the expressway was built.I havent given too much detail of the places as people before me have already done that. All I can say is do go especially in the rains when the mist comes down to kiss your cheek n say hiyoull never want to leave.
