I never read the books, so my opinion is based on the movie only.
My son, Carl, wanted to go see Lord of the Rings:The Two Towers. Even though he was 18, he wanted me to see it with him. However, I had not seen the previous Lord of the Rings movie or read the books.
Carl thought I should see the first movie before we went to see the second, so he rented the DVD and we watched it. Then, the following night, we saw the Two Towers at the theater.
It was FABULOUS! Just as colorful and exciting as the first. The sets and costumes were AMAZING! I loved everything about it. I loved Frodo and his innocent eyes, although if he looked any more wide eyed I was afraid his eyes would fall out and Sam would have to find them for him! I also loved Galum and his internal struggle with good and evil, the elves, and Aragon....is he eye candy, or what?
I watched both movies for the first time within 48 hours. I felt that there had not been a break in the sequence and that the second movie flowed from the first. When I discuss the movies with others, I have a difficult time remembering which was in the first movie and which was in the second.
When we were leaving the theater, I asked my son when we could see the NEXT in the series. He laughed and said in about a year. I was stunned. I want to see the next one NOW! I didnt wait between the first two, why should I have to wait a year to see the last?
Because it hasnt been made, yet.
Oh.
Well, .... I highly recommend the movie to everyone, anyway.
