Year 2009 is so dull right from least hike in salary to poor performance of stock markets, dipping graphs in board meetings, nothing much to enjoy.
Movies and television had been integral part of our system; I won’t say life because they act as companion during lonely days or when the word time pass is used.
Coming down to movies, this year was real mess, I am not that movie freak but yes my colleagues who rush for Friday first show are quick enough to update me next day hence a sincere thanks to them that I was able to save few bucks on movies like Chandini Chowk to China, 24x7, Luck, etc ironically one of my female colleagues called me on Saturday and said Saif has repeated what he did in Hum Tum in Love Aaj Kal, and then I decided I should settle for this deal.
Convinced my wife for LAK [Love Aaj Kal], with respect to 50% discount on Will life style store and Levi and a lunch which was due on her birthday, hence movie was little expensive but thek hai that was the theme of the day Love Aaj kal [ in context to married one!]
Cutting it short from Itinerary, traffic jams and hue & cry for the day, let us move down to movie.
Movie:-
Casting & story is pretty known to every one, hence there is no point discussing the same. What I am about to share is my thoughts on this which made me glued to chair and kept on admitting my second half’s demand, u know what I mean like Coke, Pop Corns etc.
I would break up this review in two parts one being, "What I Like" and second "what could have been better" from my view
Although I am not even close to the thought process of Imtiaz Ali and Saif Ali but yes being mango people and citizen of India I can comment:)
WHAT I LIKE:-
Veterans like Johars, Chopras, Kapoors, their movie have always been on bigger canvas, big broader, larger than life concept. I remember an interview of one of the veteran, Subhash Ghai who said, people who flock to movie theaters when they see hero they do not see hero they see themselves, they always expect hero for good things and expect a happy ending of movie.
In this era of India shinning where IPC law 377 is passed, live in relationship is common LAK was able to contrast the east man color with today’s era perfectly.
Since we see this in day today life, that live in relationship, extra marital affairs, sex before committing a relationship which is also called gelling up and understanding relationship is common affair, this movie as per my opinion threw some light to those orthodox parents who think that virginity is important, commitment is priority and then the rest.
This era where companies like Airtel Broadband whose slogan is "impatient generation", reality shows like MTV Roadies where self centeredapproach is displayed, is a clear cut innovation of words like "Instant", "self proclaimed success" and dominance of letter I.
Imitiaz perfectly gelled these concept in the first half of movie where a small party and a kiss in car to breakup party was instant, hence it displayed the fact that of impatient generation and instant.
Things changed in second half of the movie when Rishi uncle was introduced who injected the concept of love to Saif but this arrogant generation who does not believe in others and resist if directed.
Saif who played Jai was letter forced to believe that their is something called bhagwan and their is a phenomena called "love" and so was Deepika who played Meera in the movie
Movie was nicely jelled with foreign location [Looked like US, UK and Australia, although I had neither been to either countries, hence cannot comment on location] along with beautifully laced Delhi.
Background music and framing of scenes were perfect I would rate 10/10 it was more of Farhan Akhtar style
Songs like Leja Leja was rightly placed in Karan Johar style rather all songs were perfect and I liked them.
Overall if I am suppose to rate this movie on the scale from 1 to 5 where 5 being high and 1 being low, I would put this movie on 3. Now question comes why, hence for that we need to get down to the second part of the review.
WHAT I DID NOT LIKE:-
Movie was good enough but there was something which was missing, hence is one time watch, unlike Hum Tum. All characters justified their role, but movie survived due to Saif and Rishi uncle task the lady who played Harpreet, Giselle justified her role, as long as she was mum, dance moves on leja leja were not to that perfection which gave punjabi twist. Deepika I think shes long way to go before being a lead actress.
Overall the package was fine, but it failed to click as a Mega Movie, reason could be multiple:-
Saif cannot run show single handedly like Sharukh in OSO, where deepika is common. In Hum Tum contribution from Rani Mukherjee was their which made that movie click.
For Imitiaz a Generation Y love story [Generation Y - I have heard this after reading article on low waist jeans] is right mantra but movie like Jab We met, had balanced approach for both leading actors and then they were played by Kareena and Shaid to their perfection, better than Deepika and Saif, remember Kareena swept best actress award for that movie.
Movie did not have major USP except for new slang called Mango people.
But this movie came as rain in drought area. After Dev D, I really admired this movie, although Dev D was on a different track but this movie is paisa vasol.
Go for it.
I thank you all for patiently reading this, just to add here, I wont forget this movie my entire life, as I was admitted to hospital after watching this movie, reason Gasteroentitus, remember when I started this review I mentioned Love Aaj kal for married people.
I think this movie could be an inspired version of "How to loose Friends & Alienate people" of Megan Fox, Simon Pegg & Gillian Anderson, which is almost on similar track of LAK,
I thank you all for reading this review & now waiting for comments & ratings
