*- Jab LoveAaj Met LoveKal -*

With a mix of excitement and anxiety, I entered the theater to enjoy a movie after a long time.. The much hyped Love-Aaj Kal got released and here I was watching the Second Day Third Show. And with such a huge crowd gathered to watch it, I was excited and eagerly awaiting for it to start...

After a series of Onida, Samsung, LG ads and a couple of Ram Gopal Verma Movie trailers "Agyaat, The Unknown" to be precise, it finally started.

The Plot -

Jai Vardhan Singh (Saif) is the Aaj ka Cool dude, who has found an equally hot partner in Meera (Deepika Padukone). They represent the happy couple of Today, no frill and no worries.. just a normal romance. When their indivitual career paths take them to different locations, they decide to have a Break-Up Party to celebrate their separation in a different style. But as separation takes them away, they slowly but steadily realize they are the Perfect Made for each other Couple through a series of retro flashbacks of Veer singh (Rishi Kapoor) who is a restaurent owner in london. Veer identifies with Jai’s life and helps him take decisions in life. What decisions did he take? Will Love Aaj and Love kal be meet the same fate... A happy ending? You have to watch the movie to know that.

The Cast -

Saif Ali Khan as Jai Singh, Did his best at the role, and if anyone could do this role it would be Saif. To deliver those clever humourous lines with such elegance, you want someone like Saif.

Deepika Padukone as Meera, Mediocre. Some weirdly melodramatic acting from a otherwise brilliant actress. Dint like her much.

Rishi Kapoor as Veer Singh, was brilliant. Whatever he was told to do, he did it with style. Simple role made special.

The Plus Points -

The retro love story of Veer and Harleen, was a brilliant inclusion. Beautifully casted and pretty enjoyable. Sensible no nonsense Situational Comedy.. with some lovely comic touches. The desi scene where Harleen drinks Black tea with an essential desi flavour attached to it was brilliant! Humour was really great, Saif’s comic timing was as usual perfect, and some really creative humour touches. The Love-lives and mentalities of Love Aaj and Love Kal has been portrayed brilliantly, and remains one of the driving forces for you to enjoy this one. However not up to the mark, but still it doesnt feel as bad as some of those childish and foolish movies that are being produced these days. Some innovative scenes, the music was enjoyable and the overall plot was fine.

Some scenes worth mentioning -

1 - The scene where a friend asks about what to bring in at the unusual Break-Up party

2 - The scene where Jai and Meera decide to break-up.

3 - The degrading phase of Jai who isnt sure why he wasnt ok after his life-long goal of joining his dream company in the US. Great direction and picturization.

4 - The scene where Harleen comes out to meet Veer Singh in a retro style.

5 - The scene where Jai is robbed and he finally realises the real reason for his unpredictable behaviour even after realising his dream.

The Negatives -

Towards the end, it almost drags.. I was yawning when the end was nearing. Too much melodrama sigh Frankly, entertaintment comes in bits and pieces, and as such you can find yourself almost yawning at a few scenes and on the other hand ecstatically whistling and laughing at others. The screenplay was good, but putting all the scenes together, it wasnt perfect. You constantly feel something lacking. The co-ordination of the Past and the present love stories was really confusing at times. And the entertainment value wasnt consistent. Though inclusion of some really lovely ladies might have added the extra Zing to it.. :)

Overall -

Imtiaz ali’s attempt was okay to say the most, an Ok attempt at another Jab We Met lookalike. Its has got something but not everything, so unless you dont have any other option, watch this one. I had a average time watching this one. Good, could have been much better.

Rating - 3 stars. Average. Watchable but, not an out and out Winner. Just made it to that recommended threshold. Have a nice Day!
