After my salsa classes on Sunday morning, I didn’t knew whatto do so I though to grab some movie DVD from library. I got hold of a romanticmovie "Love Actually”. As I had nothing special to do thought to watchthis romantic movie(hmm sadly alone).
The movie begins with the scene from Heathrow airport where lotsof people meet and greet each other and with apt voice over by Hugh grantcommenting that "whenever he gets gloomy with the state of the world, hethinks about the arrivals terminal at Heathrow Airport, and the pure, uncomplicated love felt as friends and families welcome their arriving lovedones."
Isn’t this so true?
Film revolves around 10 stories of different types of love intertwinedor loosely connected by friends, family and colleagues. Love between friends, between 2 lovers, between colleagues(of course of opposite sex no dostanahere), between father and son, between a pop star and his manager(no dostanahere too just a friendly love).
The story starts where Christmas is just 4-5 weeks away, filmopens with a scene in which and oldie rock and roll artist(Billy nighy) wantsto make a comeback of a sort and make it big this Christmas time with hisupcoming new Christmas album.
Let me put it character wise as it would be easy tounderstand and also easier for me to write too as it’s a multi-starrer
Characters
Joe and Billy:
Joe(GregorFisher) is a longtime manager of aging rock and roll legend Billy Mack(BillNighy), he records a Christmas variation of The Troggs’ classic hit "LoveIs All Around. Just replacing the word "Love" for "Christmas"so "Christmas is all around”. This relation explores more of friendly orcan be called as platonic love.
David and Natalie
David, a bachelor prime minister andalso brother of Karen(Emma T), who cannot express his growing feelings for hisnew personal assistant Natalie(Martine McCutcheon).Wow she looks amazing Iloved her in that movie.
Peter, Juliet and Mark
Peter ismarried to beautiful Juliet(Keira Knightley) and videotaped by Mark(AndrewLincoln), Peter’s best friend and best man. When the professional wedding videoturns out to be a disaster, Juliet shows up at Mark’s door in hopes of gettinga copy of her marriage footage, despite the fact that he has always been unfriendlyto her. The video which Mark shoots are just capturing Juliet expression andnot even 1 footage of his best friend Peter. Mark is a secret admirer of Julietwho now is his best friend’s wife.
Harry, Karen and Mia
Harry(AlanRickman) is the managing director of a design agency married to Karen(EmmaThompson) and his growing love interest in beautiful Mia(Heike Makatsch), hisnew secretary. I felt strong connection with characters to Salaam-E-Ishq Juhichawla and Anil Kapoor.
Jamie and Aurelia
Writer Jamie(Colin Firth) meets Portuguese housekeeper Aurelia(Lucia Moniz), who speaksonly her native language. But still as they say love has no language theymanage to communicate with each other, with subtitles indicating they are attimes in agreement with each other or otherwise.
Daniel and Carol
Daniel(Liam Neeson) is introduced in the film during a funeral for his wife, Joanna.He is survived with his step son Sam. Carol is none other than Claudia Schiffer(A cameo role though) who happens to bump in to Daniel in Sam’s school, immediately Cupid strikes and sparks are visible.
Sam and Joanna
Sam is astep son of Daniel and has romantic feelings for Joanna(An American girl).Samlearns to play drums and does so when Joanna sings "All I want forChristmas" in school festival. Unfortunately his efforts to grab herattention fail even when he plays drums on her song.
Karl and Sarah
Sarah(Laura Linney) is a lonely girl working and Karl an isolated but handsome guy working in same office. Somehow she feels like grabbing his attention but due to her personal problems she avoids it. She has a mentally ill brother who always calls on her mobile. Karl is aware of her feelings for him.
Collin and Tony
Collin is a desperado in the movie wanting someone in his life and do some hanky panky stuff. His attempts to woo all the UK girls in vain and tells Tony(his friend) that he is flying to US to woo US girls. And ooh what lucky a person can be.he enters a average American bar and gets up close and personal with 4 hoooot American chicks and as he doesn’t have a motel to stay, they invite them to sleep.oops sorry slip of tongue… stay with them.He returns to UK with Harriet and her sister Carla(Denise Richards) who came on the flight to meet Tony(Collins Friend).
John and Judy
John and Judy are complete strangers and works as "Stand-Ins" for a sex scene in a movie. Slowly and steadily they obviously become comfortable with each other and finally get engaged.
Finally…Rowan Atkinson:
A very minuscule amount of role but a significant one, he plays a jeweler shop keeper.
You should watch this on a lazy day with your partner, friends or may be just alone like me.
Its totally entertaining movie.
