I am an avid reader of Fiction, Thriller and Suspense. Romantic Novels bore me. A hostel friend doing B.Tech gave me ’’Love Story’’ to read. I immediately returned it saying that reading love stories are not my taste.
I want to thank that friend, I’m forgetting the first name, but his surname is Chhadha, who simply shoved the book in my hand and said, ’’Just spend 15 minutes and if you dont like it, you return it’’.
As it was not very bulky I took it and started reading it standing there and simultaneously watching hostel mates playing cricket. Well, after some time cricket was forgotten and frankly I don’t remember when I moved to my room and read that book in one go.
I’m talking of 1994-95 and till date, I must say, that ’’Love Story’’ is the only novel that made me cry. I wept loudly during the climax. I can feel some tears building right now as I’m writing. Such intense is the writing that one has to read it to believe it.
I don’t like to give the names of the character and declare the plot of the novel but I must say that you’ll definitely find humour, sly humour, seriousness, foolishness, thrill, suspense, unique way of putting the thinking across by Erich etc. etc. etc..
After ’’Love Story’’ I read almost all of the works of Erich Segal. I admire his work from heart. One can actually feel one’s involvement while reading.
I must say that my friends out there who like reading or don’t like reading, just take some time out and read. You’ll not regret my advice as I don’t regret Chhadha’s advice.
