Average Story - Great Film - Bollywood Anticlimax

"the first half was good, after the interval it was all downhill". Yaars, brothers, neighbors, girlfriends - How often have you heard this after many Bollywood films. "The story was so bad" "It was so predictable" "the movie was so bad" "the end"

So here’s a refreshing thought - an average story, but a great film. And only the Akhtars can do it. The movie making is brilliant, every scene is fantastic, and postcard in itself.

The music is well used, Shankar Ehsan Loy have done a decent job. The score matches each scene well, though it may not have much to stand up by itself.

The thing that hits you square in the face is the PERFORMANCES and each and everyone of them - A1 top, if I may borrow this phrase from a friend - Rishi as the soft(all over) director, Sanjay Kapoor, as his talentless son, Juhi is spectacular as Minti, Rishi’s uppity wife, Dimple as an aggressive actress mom brings back that spark since DCH, Hrithik as a rising star, and of course the leading duo of Farhan and Konkana. Farhan’s matter-of-factness in acting just shows up naturally and Konkana is just being a silk gown slipping into any persona.

The story is as simple as a buddying actor who happenchances upon a lead role in a movie and is slightly inebrieted with the rising fame till "someone" wakes him with some simple words.

Watch the movie to find out who that someone is - rather unexpected, maybe.

A good watch for sure. It may not be a be all end all for all movie goers, but nonetheless refreshing movie-making.

Zoya may still be in the shadows of the earlier Akhtars, and this movie is not going to get her out from under them. But a good first attempt nevertheless.
