Kudos to Lux for daring to break the traditional boundaries!
Kudos to Mr. Shahrukh Khan for having the courage to do something most men wouldn’t have dared to!
I fail to see what the whole hullabaloo is all about. So, what if Shahrukh used Lux? Do the critics means to say no guy ever used Lux before this ad? Oh come one! Even you know that can’t be true.
There are guys out there who use Fair and Lovely cream, there are guys out there who go to salons for a facial, there are those who like wearing earrings, there are those who may cry during a movie – so is this all wrong for a man?
If a girl does all such things she is considered a nice feminine lady. If a girl doesn’t do such things she is considered bold and tomboyish.
If a guy does all such things questions arise over his mardangi, he maybe mocked at by friends & family members, some may even start calling him a gay; in the process giving him a lot of mental trauma.
But what’s the problem if a guy wants to be good looking? Somewhere deep in the heart, all guys have this desire of looking handsome. What’s the problem if a guy cries during a movie, isn’t he supposed to have emotions? Why is it considered a sign of weakness if a guy displays his emotions, in fact it requires courage to display your emotions openly.
Most girls these days prefer a metrosexual guy who takes care of his appearance rather than following the notion that a guy can afford to be rough and non-attractive, who would help her with the household chores be it cooking food or taking care of the baby, who would understand her feelings and needs. Such guys are termed as joru ka gulam in our Indian society, yet again making them a target of the mockery.
The definition of manhood is really very strange here. Who is the real man? The one, who slaps his wife if she disobeys him? The one, who doesn’t understand her needs and feelings? The one, who has no time for her and prefer to be with friends drinking? It’s high time we change and change for the good.
I liked this ad because it dared to challenge our double standard society. I liked this ad because now guys know it’s not abnormal if they want to look good. I liked this ad since they chose such a radical theme for their 75th anniversary.
However, all said and done, this ad has a big weakness too. You may ask what! It is the overacting of Shahrukh Khan. He made the ad overdramatic rather than making it look natural. The overacting caused a dent in the image of metrosexual guys rather than a boost. But it wouldn’t be right to blame Shahrukh for it. He just did what he was asked to do. Blame must go to the chap who did the characterization.
Despite that, one thing is loud and clear. The concept of metrosexual guy has arrived and it seems like it’s here to stay. Welcome to the era of THE METROSEXUAL GUY!
