M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story

M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story is not exactly an awe-inspring biopic. It is the heighest eulogy on celluloid to a poster-boy crickter who still captains India in the ODI and T20 formats. It is the linear telling of the rise and rise of the son of a humble pupm operator from Ranchi and his achievement of the greatest cricketing glory, epitomized by the victory in the ODI World Cup back in 2011. And Neeraj Pandey is in no hurry while paying fond compliments to his subject as he devotes more than three hours to presenting his take on the success story. He cashes in on the unqualified craze for cricket and champion cricketers in India by concocting all popular sentiments associated with game.

Sushant Singh Rajput has obviously done all the hard work to play the most decorated Indian Cricket Captain- looks, stock and barrel. Since there is nothing much in terms of drama, the fillers come in the from of Rajput replicating all the shorts in Dhoni’s book, including the helicopter shot, in snatches of some matches which define the latter’s career. There is technical wizardry all right, but Rajput looks the part. Between the two heroines, debutant Disha Patgani is the lovelier. Anupan Kher and Rajesh Sharma play their rules well. Bhumika Chawla, who once co-starred with Salman Khan, is an extra.

Amaal Malik, diahes out a confused score that sound neither anthemic nor very melodic.
