Maggi Chinese Style Noodles. Even hearing the name is sure to increase your appetite. There are four operative words in the name.
1. Maggi is the international product brand name.
2. Noodles mean the type of food to be prepared.
3. Chinese suggests the country of origin of the Noodles.
4. Style means the method of preparing the noodles.
A couple of years back a TV advertisement had featured it as Maggi 2-minute Noodles. Literally it could be prepared in 2 minutes.
Busy mothers find it very convenient and children like a quick Maggi meal.
Inside the Maggi packet there is a small sachet of some flavoured masala, and some people say that it is bad for health, although medical opinion does not confirm it. It is this masala which gives Maggi the desired flavour. A fat grandson of mine eats this masala. A funny fellow he is. Once he had come to Cuttack (Orissa) with his mother, and said I want to eat Cuttack.
Cooking Maggi is simple indeed. Heat water in a deep pan. When the water boils, open the packet of Maggi and put the whole stock into the pan. Add the masala. Allow the whole contents to simmer for two minutes. The noodles are ready. Usually one packet of cooked Maggi serves two persons. My wife adds vegetables like beans, onions, and small quanties of tomato to the contents. I find it very delicious. You have to take it in a bowl with a fork.
In Indonesia, where eating noodles is very popular, you will find noodles in a nice plastic cup. Add boiling water to it, and after two minutes it is ready.
You can take Maggi Noodles with Chilly sauce or Soya Bean sauce.
In the Indian Railways, they serve noodles. A small dish costing Rs.15.00. Quite expensive. The Pantry Car cooks add chilli powder to it. I dont know the logic behind it.
