I have been to Magnolia (Koramangala) many times. The reason I chose to write this review is because last night they served excellent dinner for me. My previous visits have been a mixed experience.
The pros of this restaurant is
Very good chines food. I ordered a spicy crab soup. and it was excellent
The chicken Satay was done to perfection. The presentation of Satay was excellent and so was the smokey/barbecued taste. The sweet peanut sauce went very well along with it. If you are visiting Magnolia definitely try this dish.
On my previous visit to Magnolia I had ordered Thai food, and it had turned out to be very disappointing. So this time, I decided to order some regular Chinese dishes and not try their Thai menu.
So I ordered Chicken Hot Pot and Hakka Noodles for myself and American Chopswey for my wife. This turned out to be a good decision as they made all the 3 dishes to perfection, making it a very nice and satisfying meal.
Some of the good points of the restaurant were
They honored the reservation. In many bangalore hotels you will have to wait for 30 minutes despite making reservation well in advance. We turned up on exact time of the reservation, and were seated immediately.
Very good food. The bill didnt hurt much (Rs 700 for two people and an infant).
Certain dishes like the Satay were very well made.
Dishes are not very spicy unless the menu says so. This is very good if you are ordering for kids.
The not so good things are
They dont make the Thai main course very well. We ordered Pad Thai, Thai green, red curry and rice and the curries were a disaster. They had nothing thai about them (perhaps more Andhra curry)
The chef seems to be inconsistent. One day he/she will make finger licking good food. the next time, he will ruin the same dish! (But this is a problem with many other restaurants of Bangalore as well).
