Mahabaleshwar--Its Different!

Hi Everybody With Autumn break approaching, I don’t think its a bad time to visit a hill station like Mahabaleshwar.Hill Station at this time? Yes, why not? After all you cannot expect a very cold weather in Mahabaleshwar at this time of the year.Unlike most of the other hill stations you will not find any snow cladmountains.

Well, I have visited this place thrice when I was doing my engineering in Kolhapur. The first time I visted this place was in February 1999, the second time I visited this place was in August 2000 and the third time was in October 2001.And believe me, I never found this place boring because everytime I visited this place I found something different awaiting my arrival.

Mahabaleshwar is a 2 hours journey from Pune and and easiest way to reach this place is to reach Pune and take a short bus journey to this place. The bus journey itself is scintillating as is with the journey to other hill stations. As the journey is not a very long one and since you will always have some company, I guarantee you will never get bored.

Once you reach there there are plenty of lodges where you can stay depending upon the amenities you need and money you can spend.Your stay can cost you anywhere between Rs 300 to Rs 2000 for a two bedroom.Once you are fresh and are raring to go for a

sight-seeing spree, the best option for you is to hire your seat in a tourist bus for they are the best people to show you the things that are worth seeing.Or else if you reach there using your own conveyence just hire a guide from just outside the State Transport Bus Depot. The guide will take around Rs 150 and will show you all the points in Mahabalsehwar.Of course there are the usual gossips that you would have to bear while the guide shows you the points.

The points which are unforgettable points include Arther Seat Point(simply because it has a long platform extending in to the valleys where you can peep into the abysmal depths).).The Echo Point is also quiet famous for the echoes. The Sunset Point amd the Sunrise Point are also very nice. Then there are the temples wherein you can see the outlets of five rivers merging.Though I did not believe it but the place has its own aroma and why not the place has derived its name from these temples. Then if you are interested in little

bit of fun, you can visit the local waterfall.By my favorite place is the so called ’’baatli bai bunglow’’.I was advised my the locl people not to go there as it believed to be haunted. But my friends and I went there and we found that place quiet interesting. Finally, when its night time you can visit the local market which is also famous for the wooden good and casinos. There is also a lake in the city where you can enjoy boating. There are a few other places you can visit nearby Mahabaleshwar like the fort of Shivaji Maharaj and Panchgani.

Food is of couse a bit expensive as is the case with other hill stations but as usual there are also cheap place to eat.For example, theres a restaurant called Sher-e-punjab where in a veg-thali would cost you around Rs 50 and the quantity is more than sufficient for 2 people. And yes, I bet you would love it. If you reach there at an appropriate time you can also enjoy the fresh juicy strawbeeries and also the sweet corn.I had the oppurtunity to get into a strawberry farm where in I plucked strawbeeries myself and enjoyed it.And yes, if you visit this place in rainy season, the cloud cover on the ground itself would make you will romantic!!!

Nothing more to pen for its not easy to put down your feelings.Visit Mahabaleshwar and you would come to know what I mean.
