I was looking for a mid-sized diesel car because I do a lot of highway driving & go on long drives quite often, so the frugality of the Diesel car suits my pocket. I was comparing between fiesta & Indigo Dicor and has zeroed in on Dicor but then Logan was launched & I test drove one, I was delighted by its smooth pick up, great driveability in Delhi’s traffic, lots of interior space and a very big boot and I was getting all this in only Six Lac bugs. It seemed to me a true value for money. I immediately finalised it & purchased a LOGAN 1.5 DLE in June 2007.
In the last six months I have driven it from Delhi to Shimla, Manali, Nainital, Kausani, Mussorie. The car is a real pleasure to drive in the hills. Even in the sharp hilly terrain it responds so quickly to the throttle that one feels he is driving in the plains. I did most of the Manali shimla trip, 250 Km Hilly terrain, in the fourth & fifth gear, only at very sharp uphill gradient I occasionally shifted to third gear, I never had to go down the Third gear to maintain a good pick up on that route & the story is same for all the hilly terrains. Besides on the hair pin bends & U curves it turns so effortlessly that I really enjoyed driving it in the toughest & roughest of terrains. On the Nainital trip the road from Rampur to Bilaspur, about 35 km stretch, was in a dilapidated condition practically non existent, but Logan took all in its stride and cruised smoothly on that stretch also.
On NH -1(Delhi-Chandigarh highway) I cruised it upto 140 kmph, and I tell you friends only by looking at the speedometer I could make that I am cruising at that speed, otherwise the car runs so smoothly and with great balance at these high speeds that I really enjoy it and to top it all mileage is also terrific.
Mahindra organised Mileage marathon run for all the Logan vehicles on 13.01.2008 in Delhi and I participated in it. My Logan clocked a mind boggling mileage of 39.66 Kms to a litre of Diesel in Delhi’s heavy traffic & I bagged the second prize. The mileage clocked by the winner was 39.7 Kmpl. I was delighted to get that mileage from the Logan and after that mileage run I changed my driving habit and now I drive at constant speeds of 50-60 Kmph in Delhi city and now I am regularly getting a Mileage of 26 kmpl in Delhi’s traffic in winter.
*I have touched 8000 Kms & have driven it in all type of terrains. After driving it for six months I am totally satisfied by my decision to purchase a Logan & delighted by its performance. The car is running great and has no problems at all. The problems cited in the reviews were:
a) The controls are on the opposite side: I got used to it on the very first day.
b) The indicator problem: That never posed me any problem
c) Boot opener: That’s really a problem but I got fitted one in 500 bugs from my Mahindra dealer during the new Year offer.
d) Looks : The performance overshadows everything*
