I was mainly looking at a sedan with a lot of space inside. I tested Hyndai Accent, Ford Icon flair, GM’s UVA, Maruti sx4, Tata Indigo. SX4 and verna were ruled out for hgh price. Accent and Indiigo were old models. Finally Mahindra Logan satisfied my requirement of price, size and comforts. As My usage was not heavy I calculated that petrol is a better option for me. So I purchased Logan petrol version GLX, Diamond white colour, at Rs.5.21L on road(without any add ons or show room fittings) in Bangalore in Feb 2008.(This is 2008 model) The sales guy told me that 1.4 wll be almost as good as 1.6 for my usage. So iit was 1.4 GLX. It comes with built in auto boot release, unlike earlier models.
I have now driven 1900 KMs and feel that I can write a fair review on this car. I am quite satsfied with its performance except for some small snags.
Fuel consumption: On city runs it is giving 10.5 to 11 KM per litre of petrol. We went on a trip from Bangalore to Chennai -round trip 800 KMs.I was drving at 100 KMs as it was GQ high way. Some times I reached 125 or 130 KMPH also. AC on and 5 persons in car. I was amazed to get 14.5 to 15 KMs a litre on this journey.
Ride: It is very smooth and comfortable on city road or highways. It smoothly rides on poorer roads also. But the road clearance is not enough to clear some clumsy make shift speed breakers. Under carriage touches these humps and makes a scary sound. Now I am very careful and ride quite slowly over these humps and avoid hiting the road. If it is a well designed speed breaker(broad) then we can go at good speeds quite smoothly.
control positons: It is quite OK. Too much crticism on these but not correct. If at all you are not familar, you can get used to it within 2 days.
Good features: power windows, very good AC, central locking, If you put head light on and open the door- there is an audible alarm, big boot, plenty of leg space in front and rear, rear seat also good in long distance travel(only the middle person in the rear has difficulty in stretching the legs). Strong build. Even the fibre glass front bumpers etc are quite sturdy. I had some small hits and no breakages but only small scratches on paintwork.
Bad items: Front Right and Left rear view mirrors are not good. They are hard to fold and open. Mine broke while folding and I paid Rs.1300 to replace it. The workshop fellow told me that he will try to get the amount refunded through warranty? Nothing can be done now. Rear middle seat has less leg space. Pick up is poor but once at some speed it goes smoothly. No brute power!
Noise and vibrations: very less. Some times ac makes some noise but I need to check it up during first service next week.
Sales persons are good and no problems on sales or service till now!
