This review is based purely on my experience with the Scorpio.
2 months back I went for a family vacation to North Bengal (Darjeeling, Kurseong and Kalingpong). We had a Scorpio at our disposal. My initial observation is that it is very sturdy and powerful. Had plenty of revs where it matters, the only drawback is that it was not a 4 wheel drive. That said, it gave us good service and ride. The HVAC performed very well. (The vehicle was driven from Guwahati and back). It took the hill roads very well. In terms of space, it is very spacious, both in the front and back, including the 3 row seats. It comfortable took 6 people in a 2x2x2 seating. The only minus point was getting in and out of the 3rd row seats.
Now comes the main problem faced. At Kalingpong the vehicle began giving problems. When it was taken to the local mechanic, it was discovered that the inner right hubcap was missing, due to which the grease was freely flowing out. Not a good thing to have while driving the Hill roads, believe me! A makeshift cap was fitted and we made it back to Kurseong, where we were staying. We had to stop and throw water on the wheels though!
The next day we were to drive back to Guwahati. It made it to Siliguri when there was wobbling movement. We had to give it to the Mahindra service station for repairs that took about 4 hrs. They replaced the inner hub cap and replaced the grease and did some other maintenance work. Following that we proceeded to Guwahati.
The journey was uneventful, although the unsteady movement was still present. Later we found that my uncle who has a Scorpio as well, had a similar problem. He had once taken it to the tea gardens in Upper Assam, after which his vehicle started to wobbly. He too found that the inner hub caps in his Scorpio was missing. The problem persisted even after getting a full maintenance and repair done. Since then he is not using the Scorpio so much.
My observation from this is that the Scorpio is a very good city SUV. It is not meant for outdoor roads!
