It was called the new ’’Pretty Woman’’. C’mon! Notting Hill was ten times better. The only good thing about Maid in Manhattan was that Jennifer Lopez actually looked like the hollywood stereotype latino maid. The movie was nowhere compared to Pretty Woman, which I do not rate pretty high either. They take up the entire first half to set up the plot. The Pretty Woman plot was set in what, 2 minutes? Maid in Manhattan is slow. At least they should have put in more comedy so that people could get some laughs rather than having dry half-hearted humor that won’t even twitch your smile muscles. Ralf Fiennes may be a decent actor, but does not fit in. He could fit in as a millionaire, but not a politician. And no, I am not imagining those big tummied kurta-dhoti politicians we are so used to seeing. Hindsight, there could be other actors casted instead of him who’d fit in a lot better. Acting is so-so, nothing great. There are too many characters and the movie does not actually revolve over the main characters. Overall, it has a pretty flimsy look. If you ever want to watch it, skip the first half. You can understand the entire movie in the last 40 odd minutes.
