Hum B Hain Na

Results of Psychometric Test administered on a leading Bollywood Hero:

  1. You see anti-social elements hell bent on creating havoc with the country’s peace-keeping efforts.

  2. You are the illegitimate son and the legitimate wife of the legitimate husband who committed adultery is refusing to adopt you.

  3. A starlet who loves your brother is unable to garner his attention.

  4. A General who has owed his life to the country now wants to be (re)united with his daughter.

  5. A terrorist is holding school children and staff to ransom and is asking for your blood in return.

The Bollywood Star’s reply was quite simple – Main Hoon Na and he is ShahRukh Khan aka Ram in the movie. Sawaal anek, Jawaab ek is the catch phrase here.

On the Movie

Farah Khan does extremely well on her debut venture as a director and dishes what perhaps is a near perfect Bhel Puri of Emotions, Drama, Comedy, Fantasy, Patriotism all mixed into one. While the movie cannot boast of an unique concept, one must acknowledge Farah for beautiful integration of all the available resources.

The movie plot centers around Project Milaap, an ambitious project launched by India to promote peace & friendship with Pakistan and how Ram manages to take it to a logical finish despite being harrowed by anti social elements. In the process, he also manages to do a Project Milaap within “his” own house which had become bichda after Pavitra Maatashree decided to penalize the perfidy of Pitashree, by staging a chalo Darjeeling aandolan leaving Ram & Repenting papa behind. Ofcourse, the female glamour is installed by an energetic Amrita Rao and always-a-sensation – Sushmita Sen. Add to this characters like Satish Shah, Bindu and a couple more on same lines who have been designated to provide comic relief. And ofcourse, Sunil Shetty for the villainy.

Points worth Pondering

  1. The choreography of the first song in the movie - Chale Jaise Hawaiyen. Notice how the camera sticks to Amrita (and later on Zayed, when he makes his entry in this song). The camera moves with the central character and looks like its been taken without a cut. Nice concept. Simple yet elegant.

  2. Check out the music that gets played when Sunil Shetty is on Screen. A rocked guitar piece which does more than justice to his characterization.

  3. And finally, trademark similarities in characters with Karan Johar’s movies.

  4. An absent minded principal.

  5. A Bindu in place of Archana Puran Singh.

  6. A Satish Shah to do the comic professor role.

  7. Exotic college campus where you see more Guitars, Violins & drums than

notebooks.

  • A typical college annual day function galore with song n dance.

And possibly some more……
