I never asked myself kyun once when I went to watch the show of Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya… cliched!! Well how about zindagi mein har why, kyun aur kayko ka jawab nahin hota…
That is what the film is … jiska jawab nahin hai… why David Dhawan made this film? No answer.. What are the actors doing in the film? Who knows… Where is the script going? Don’t know… There is only mantra … Just Chill… have a ball for a few hours… have a few laughs.. Enjoy the idiosyncrasies of the actors and come out with a smile on your face.
In short MPKK is a typical David Dhawan film. And having cleared that, let’s talk about the story. If there is any…
Salman Khan is an orthodontist who tells all his girl friends that he is married - which he is not. And with his current girl friend Katrina things get serious and he is actually falling for her. But now she wants to meet his wife.
The entire first half of the film is Katrina wanting to meet all of Salman’s non-existent family and her trying to commit suicide when he says no. And of course her weird neighbour Sohail Khan.
A lot of people felt that Sohail has aped his brother Salman in the film. Well, when it comes to comedy, Salman has his own typical style and Sohail although to a certain extent does remind you of Salman in his previous films, but hey, it is difficult to copy someone and do a good job of it. So full marks to Sohail for that. He is quite a delight to watch on screen.
Salman’s nurse Sushmita is conned into playing his wife and the mother of his kids to convince Katrina that he is in a bad marriage. Arshad Warsi comes in as Salman’s friend and Sushmita’s boyfriend and is quite adorable in all his scenes.
Just before the interval enters Bina Kak who plays Salman’s mother. And her signature is her slapping spree.
The meaningless drama goes on with a few songs thrown in here and there to spruce up the viewing pleasure.
It all ends well in the end, of course…. All hindi film stories do…
Out of the cast, Rajpal’s cameo kinda drags. Arshad as I mentioned earlier is fun. Katrina isn’t bad either. Sushmita is fabulous. Salman is ok. But the cake goes to Sohail Khan. Kudos to him.
The modern editing pattern used in places doesn’t really add anything to the film. Salim Sulaiman’s background score as usual is great.
Paisa Vasool, I would say..
