What of the BSNL?

The MS seems to have left out the BSNL from its category of telephones. That its telephone system is no match to the cell phones is stating the obvious. However, it is still the largest provider of phones in the country, and by implication, the most important source of harassment of the public.

That despite the rapid advance in IT, it still lacks professionalism and remains callous and often inaccessible to the public is again stating the obvious.

To cite a simple example of its demonstration of how not to cooperate and help the public, though phones with Caller ID are aplenty in the market, the Telephones Department insists that for utilising this facility the subscriber has to pay every month (or every two months as the billing is once in two months).

As clipping the connection in the Telephone Exchange is not a laborious and sophisticated work, one might ask why the Department should not allow the subscribers to make a one time payment (initially), and allow them to have the Caller ID facility without further ado; more so, when such a facility is easily available on the cell phones.

Obviously, professionalism and professional thinking, in terms of customer service, are not the strong points of our bureaucracy, of which the Telephone Department is undoubtedly an integral part.
