Okay, I finally broke down and purchased a water filter. I got tired of buying bottled water all the time. And since our water here in Florida tastes really bad, I figured it was time.
I wound up with a PÜR faucet mount filter, for which I paid $39.99 (US).
It was easy to install! All I had to do was remove the old faucet aerator and washers and screw the new filter on(with new washers!). Quick and easy. Five minutes tops!
Next I had to unscrew the bottom of the filter, insert a charcoal filter cartridge and it was ready to use.
This particular filter has a window in front, called an ASM indicator gauge, which lets you know how much of the filter has been used up. It starts out as a black line, and as you use the filter, it very slowly turns to white, and when almost used up, it starts to show a red color. Each filter lasts(with regular, daily use) approximately 2-3 months or about 100 gallons(378 litres) of water.(It comes with 2 filters, which I have not used up yet, so I do not know the cost of filter replacements.)
There is no real trick to maintaining this water filter system, other than to make sure you change the filter when necessary. You also need to wipe it down to keep it clean. I wipe it with my sponge each night, when I finish doing the dinner dishes. And voila!! Clean and sparkling, just like new.
The PÜR filter virtually eliminates all impurities from your water and leave it free of any chloride or sulphur type of odor. It is perfect for drinking and cooking with. (Great for baby formulas too!)
It comes with a one year limited warranty from the manufacturer. And also a toll free phone number to call, to speak with someone in customer service with any problems or concerns you have about the product.
So, bottom line..Change filter regularly and wipe it down to keep it clean.
