I read all your opinions on R.K.Narayanan......
It seems that we are all in the same boat. People who luv reading his books.
All the history you told me about RKN is quiet fantastic....
Let me tell you something. I have read all the books till date by him (not boosting..please!)how that came about is a short story....
I am avid reader and I read anythign that I land my hands on...... So goin through my dads collection I came upon this author aka RKN.....
My pop had got the full collection for throw-away price as gift for my housewife-mother to pass her time....but since my mom had the bad habit of smoring thru boooks, the books reamined hardly touched until they fell in the hands of me.....
Every single book is a journey... journey throught the mythical malgudi that the author created.... believe me..... till my college day I thot there was a place called malgudi.. such was the description in the books......
There has been a number of short stories by RKN. I have to hand it out to the author, he has created so many chrachteers larger than life...
Swami who was called rajams tail: many people can identify with this boy. this exactly how you might have been. afraid of ghosts, your dad, wonder and awe at the baby brother.
shastri who was the printers assistant in the man eater of amlugid-- meek, humble and afraid
Rangi, whose musky smell you can smell too if you read th book
guide: have to say that dev anand did a poor job in this cinema but the story is gripping
Ultimately one short story which is close to my heart two goats and one horse
Any one one who had read this would vouch for this book as to how down to earth this book is....
Finally closing this long ramblking by saying do get a copy of two goats and a horse you will surely smell the earth and the goats around the Kalki statue.....................
