Majorca the beautiful Island

Me and my husband love the Island of Majorca, even Michael Douglas and his new wife Catherine Zeta Jones have a place out there.

There are all different parts to this lovely Island, ranging from the ’’Party’’ towns called Magaluf and Palma Nova.

We have been there in the quiet and noisy months. I know which we prefer.

We have been to Cala ’Dor which is a beautiful very cosmopolitan town.

We stayed in an apartment which normally we prefer to do as we can enjoy evenings out testing different restaurants.

There are hundreds of restaurants and cafe’s there. Also it’s a shoppers paradise.

There are several little bays with white sand and clear seas.

We went out regularly to a bar/disco called Route 66, the couple who owned it were German.

They spoke good english but we didn’t speak any German.

They welcomed us every night and even gave us their address in Germany.

We wrote but never did receive a reply.

There is a lovely square where there are all different types of restaurants ranging from Majorcan food, French, Chinese, American, German etc.

There was a great cocktail bar which made the most delicious Pina Coladas.

The cocktails came in very unusual glasses and had a long straw, sometimes you had to stand up to drink it, it was that big.

.......

Alcudia town is made up of the old part and the new.

We stayed on the outskirts, it was a quiet area, but easy to get to the town itself.

Alcudia has the most beautiful beaches, they stretch for miles.

It has a promenade where you can cycle or skate, and generally sit in a cafe and watch the world go by.

The beaches are very long with white sand and Palm trees are dotted along the promenade , it is a very beautiful sight.

Living in a country village back in England makes you appreciate the Ocean more I think.

Our nearest beach resort is about one hours drive, but the beaches are not so clean and the sea is miles away.

Here in Majorca you can find little hideaways where there are not so many people around.

If you go up in the mountains you will always find a great spot for a picnic.

Sometimes you may need a jacket as the temperature can drop dramatically.

Below I have wrote about one of the best Hotels I have ever been in , in Majorca of course.

It caters for mostly families but there is something for everyone.

Here in England this Hotel is featured quite regularly on the Travel shop, that is a programme on Sky Digital TV.

The price to stay there seems to have risen quite a lot since my husband and I have been there.

I suppose we can not compare it with the hotels in the USA there is no comparison.

European hotel rooms are very small, there isn’t always room to swing a cat round, but they are cosy.

The Spaniards are ok but they appreciate you more if you can speak a little spanish.

We know a few basic words for Hello and Thankyou.

It get’s you by, there are always actions.

Anyway I think Iam getting a little carried away so now I will commence.

.........

Back in March 1996 me and my husband decided to go to Alcudia in Majorca.

We booked an All-Inclusive holiday off teletext for a bargain price of £189 each.

We thought that was a real bargain because we had all our food and drinks paid for.

Apparently the same holiday now is about £300 each unless you know better..

The large complex was made up of three hotels, Jupiter , Saturno and Marte.

We stayed in Saturno and the Germans stayed in Marte.

I don’t know if Marte still exists as I only seem to be seeing the other two advertised.

The Hotel is right across the road to a massive water park, but with loads of swimming pools within the resort , about four I think you had plenty of room to have a splash about .

There was loads of sunbathing areas as well, round the pool were sunloungers, there was an area of grass with sunbeds for people wanting peace and quiet.

When we got there we had to have our photos taken to prove you were one of their guests. You had to wear this photo ID round your neck and show it everytime you went for your food or drinks.

We had breakfast , the choice was quite good, we had a choice of cereals, eggs, sausages, beans, etc, yoghurts, fruit, hams and cheese, toast.

You could eat all you wanted.

In the morning if you were still hungry there were a few pool bars which were jammed packed with snacks, there were hotdogs, burgers, chips, allsorts of sandwiches, fruit, jugs of sangria, beer, coca cola, etc etc.

You could stuff yourself silly.Round the corner there was also another little inside cafeteria, you could grab a pizza, ice cream, drinks.

At lunch time and dinner time there was quite a lot of choice, every night we had wine or beer with our meal.

It felt weird at first not having to pay.

The bar staff though still appreciated a small tip to acknowledge them.

At night we sat in the bar area at first on our own, then bit by bit we met up with Andy and Andrea, Andy and Andy, Diane and Bill.

We had such a laugh especially as they nearly all were called Andy.

We got jugs of sangria and the equivalent to Baileys, at first we took advantage of it, but after a few days calmed down.

During the day we could hire a bicycle for about 1000 pesetas deposit, about £4.00, we cycled several miles, I’m that unfit that my husband sometimes had to push me along the road, it was flat as well.

There were loads of other things to do like Horse Riding, there could have been a charge for that.

There were tennis courts, table tennis, archery, mini golf, a large lake with free pedaloes, a games room, pool tables, daily sports programmes.

At night there were entertainment, there were discos, flamenco evenings, live groups.

If you wanted to venture into Alcudia new town , it was only a short walk away.

We did that a couple of times and it felt strange having to get your money out.

This resort had only just opened as an all-inclusive when we had got there and we were the guinea pigs, I must say that out of the All-Inclusive hotels we have been in lately, this is the best ever...

There was so much to do and see, Alcudia is such a beautiful place , watch out for the time share touts, we got stung on that holiday, but I will write another op about that.

I would highly recommend this resort especially if you have a family.

It is a much cheaper option when you have children, you can get them an icecream or soft drink whenever you like.

There are several things for the children , there is a playroom and playground, childrens clubs, childrens disco, I could go on and on.

The rooms are quite small but clean. I don’t know if they lived up to the 4star rating, but the facilities made up for that.

When we went in early March we were cold in the rooms, as we had rooms where no sun could get into them.

Everytime I had a bath I would plug my hairdryer in and let it warm up the floor for when I stepped out of the bath.

Even my bed got a blast of hot air to warm the sheets up.

As the week went on it started getting hot.

We had a great holiday and would definetly return.
