Vow, I am pleasantly suprised to see Malshej Ghats in the list here. Not many beyond Mumbai and Pune would know where this is and why one should go there. But ask a Mumbai-ite and he/she will swear by it when it comes to a weekend trip during the rains. Because when it rains in Malshej Ghats, it rains cats and dogs and the route to this place is a trip to paradise.
The lovely ghats rise high above you all covered in mist. The greatest attractions to this place are the numerous water-falls that dot the road. Youll come across several vehicles parked road-side with their occupants getting drenched under the falls. And this is what Malshej ghat is all about. Usually a 1-day trip is enough. Start early morning and be back just when it gets dark. Hire a large vehicle so that you can carry extra clothes and also change in the vehicle if reqd. This is best as a family trip - everyone can freak out.
Youll find stalls and hotels along the route for breakfast, but the best way to enjoy is to carry your own snacks, camp along the several streams enroute. Ensure not to leave any garbage behind though.
Once you reach MG, theres just 1 restaurant (i cant recall the name) which offers hot appetising meals. Have lunch there, take a brief nap (may be in ur vehicle) and then head back to wherever you started from (most possibly Mumbai or Pune).
