The tedious ho-hum!

So it finally arrives...and that with a bang! But so what? So do many

other mediocre films, 2 of them every week! But the difference with this

one is that it is an Amir Khan film after 4 years, and that says a lot

since the actor is known for his credibility! But sorry Amir, this time u’ve

disappointed us, and big time!!

Mangal Pandey - The rising is a big film gone hugely wrong in every

sense of the term. Right from the inconsistant script to a few incoherant

and unintentionally hillarious dance numbers, almost everything about

the film is rediculous! Apart from a few well executed action sequences,

passable acting( Amir and Toby Stephens are good!), stunning visuals

and top notch technique, the film fails in all the other departments....miserably!

One of the main reasons for this could be that the character of Mangal

Panday isn’t vast enough, or probably not too much is known about him

to capture 3 hours of M-P trivia on celluloid! So what the director does

is adds unnecessary subplots like the Amisha Patel sati sequence a

few bres-t feeding scenes unneeded romance and innumerable songs!

In fact even Rani Mukerji’s role wasn’t necessary, it just hinders

the already slow proceedings of the film!

For a film like Mangal Pandey, authenticity is a bloody must...and if

Amir Khan claims to have interfered for the betterment of the film,

wonder what he was thinking when he made those sexy sirens dance

to ’Rasiyaa’?

Watch this pretentious film at your own risk...or better still, skip it!
