Mangalore is located in Karntaka region. I lived in Mangalore for Approximate more than 4 years, I really loved my days in Mangalore. You are fall in love with the city at a less prices compared to metro cities like Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad in south india. Mangalore is best in tourism part as well, you have number of places to visit near Mangalore. we have piligrimage places, we have beach resorts, we have hill stations, we have water falls, We have islands and lots more tooo. If you are going from Bangalore I strongly recommend to go to Mangalore in Morning train from Bangalore, it will take approx 12 hours journey but you can enjoy the nature very much. There are waterfals, water flows, tunnels and nature to enjoy the trip. Another main thing we have to talk about is the climate over there, mainly in rainy season. Once rain starts in rainy season then it will not stops for days. If you love rain then you can awesomly enjoy the same in Mangalore. Overall I really loved and enjoyed my days in Mangalore, now looking to visit once with my Wife. Not sure when I visit. Overall Mangalore is a wonderful place to visit in south india.
