Bad start but great stay later

My experience started with a mix up in the reservation. We had booked 2 AC cottages(Rajapuri and Raspuri) after confirming that they are available a few days in advance, by paying 25% advance. One day before check-in we got a call saying Raspuri is not available. We were given 2 options - a non-AC cottage close to Rajapuri or another AC cottage far from Rajapuri. Thinking the non-AC cottage will be close to the AC cottage standards except for the AC, we agreed to the non-AC cottage.

Before parking, when we told the security guard that we would take the vehicle close to the walkway, as my father couldn’t walk far he objected. But we took the vehicle close to the walkway anyway. Then they said they would check our baggage at the parking lot for liquor, we objected and asked the guard to accompany us to reception where he could do the checking. The bad experience phase of our stay started here.

At the time of check-in we were asked to pay the remaining 75% upfront. When we objected, they said it is their policy. When we asked why this policy was not mentioned on their web site, they said they cannot mention everything on the website. After some argument, they agreed that we could pay at the time of check-out.

When we were being shown to our non-AC cottage, we observed that it was nowhere near the AC cottage standards. When we asked why this was not mentioned they had no answer. When we indicated that the non-AC cottage was not acceptable and we wanted an AC cottage, we were told we had committed to the non-AC cottage the previous night. After some more argument, they gave us an AC cottage.

When we asked if we could have lunch where we saw a buffet spread, we were told it is dedicated to a different group. When we went to the restaurant, it was full. Then, when we asked if we could have lunch at the dedicated buffet spread, they agreed.

So the process of reservation was inefficient and check-in was stressful.

But, after that the stay was perfect.

The restaurant staff are well trained, courteous, helpful and very accommodating.

The ambiance of the resort is very good.

They provide a dedicated campfire for each group, which is very enjoyable.

The food is pretty good in terms of taste(lunch and dinner) but lacks in non-veg variety(only chicken), but overall not bad. Breakfast - only one or two items are tasty(Chana batura was good and pongal was okay). But, my dad and I had upset stomachs after eating the food at the resort.

In the evening they spray pesticide and the guy practically chased us around. We had to take detours to avoid the smell. But at least we didn’t see any pests in the rooms. But the rooms are pretty noisy at night(not sure what the sounds are). But, the rooms and bathrooms are good.

But Rajapuri was pretty smelly.

The adventure sports are not much. But there is Zorb ball and rock climbing.

The table tennis place has gaps on all sides through which the ball goes out and we spend more time fetching it. They could close all the gaps and make it more enjoyable. Also the lighting at the table is pretty bad.
