This is from personal experience and experiences of quite a few friends at Manipal Hospital ? A very famous hospital in Bangalore. The general feeling is you go to Manipal with little finger problem they might ask you to take HIV test. Yes, ridiculous, but happens. My wife was asked to take HIV tests twice during her pregnancy visits ? WHY?
I heard Manipal has been a loss making hospital till about last year, when they hired a new CEO who is resorting to such tricks where every patient is made to udergo unnecessary tests. And voila, it reported its first profit year.
This is taking advantage of one?s concern for health. General public tend to believe what the doctors say and these doctors (& hospitals) take advantage of this. I guess this is the case almost everywhere.
What really prompted me to write this is, a baby born and kept in ICU in St. John?s costed one-third to what it would cost at Manipal.
