Much has been written about the lyrics of foul-mouthed rapper Eminem. There is a split opinion on the American star, but increasinly it seems he is increasingly losing public sympathy. His songs appeal to teenagers who see him as an inspiration, but surely something must be done to put a stop to the views and beliefs he broadcasts in his songs.
You can take a step back and say it’s all light hearted and it’s simply a way for him to make money, and that’s fine, good luck to him, but now it has gone to far and it’s time something was done. Last week, there were reports of young children slashing their wrists just to be like Eminem. When it has gotten to that stage, he has to take a good look at himself and the message he is spreading.
In his song he boasts of drug taking, rape and killing his mother among other things. Why is this being broadcast to young children who are easily influenced by him and try to copy their hero? It is one thing for people to listen to his music, but when people start harming themselves and others Eminem must be held responsible.
His act on stage recently with a chainshaw was anything but responsible and it seems that Marshall Mathers just gets worse. He can point to any number of excuses he wants but the fact of the matter remains that he is just like the characters he portrays in his songs. He’s assaulted a man thought to be sleeping with his wife and he is a loose cannon who can snap at any given second.
Emniem is not a positive influcene on society and while his lyrics in their own are not a danger, the effect they are increasingly having on the world mean that they are no longer acceptable.
