M-800 Reliable and Tough

I am back with my fourth review on MS. First of all, I would like to thank MS for giving an opportunity for people to place their ideas on different products available in the market as it is very helpful to the prospective buyers in taking a decision regarding a product and also creates awareness regarding the same.

To start with, we had long back some 5 yrs ago purchased an second hand M800 92 model 4-speed without power steering or ac, carbeuttor model, bought for 60K. I would say we have got the max out of this car and it was worth the deal and a true value for money. Had great fun driving together as we have a family of 5 and sharing many sweet memories together. It has always been with us.

I own a Pulsar 180 and use it for my daily commuting to my office and back home. Being used to 180, it is very difficult to be satisfied by any other machine as my 180 makes 0-60 in flat 4.4 seconds and 0-100 in 14.5 seconds. But the 800 is used the most durings rains and extreme cold weathers when travelling on bike becomes difficult.

Being 5’11’’, I never had any problems getting in and out of this car nor my legs touching the dashboard. Yes have to accept this car is a bit low built and u need to crawl in.

We have travelled a lot making many weekend trips and long tours in this car. It is quite reliable and wont let u down at any moment. I dont remember being stuck anywhere in the middle coz of breakdowns. Seating three on the rear seats can be tiring during long journeys as the rear seats are too cramped and small with very little leg space available. Boot space is too little and can only accomodate a suitcase and a small bag with very difficulty.

Cold starting can be challenging at times, mostly when the car is parked for days together, it refuses to start.

Steering tends to become a bit unpredictable at high speeds, say u start crossing 70-80, the car starts swaying like a feather. Suspension is also not too good, but what else can u expect from an entry level car. It is very frustrating when u try to overtake a bus and have to give up middle way because the car is too slow to respond. Engine starts feeling strained crossing 80. Headlamps are also weak and blanks out with upcoming traffic use their high beams.

All in all, a good family car if ur planning to use it more for city commuting, due to its small size its easy to manoeuvre in the traffic. Very economical to use and low manitenance. Almost zero maintenance other than the routine servicings. Spares too are very cheap compared to its competitiors.

If you decide to go for this car, dont keep high expectations and you will never be disheartened by this car. It is very reliable and has basic interiors.

Im planning to upgrade to a bigger car very soon, hopefully Logan or Swit very soon. If its a petrol, im more inclined towards maruti or else diesel ones would be something other than marutis, but the good old memories of this first car of ours would always live forever.

Thanks and bye folks.
