Esteem weighs 870 KG. 1.3 ltr 85hp engine which pulls very good due to the cars low weight. So good that in gear acceleration times match the 106hp Old honda city’s times. Present Maruti swift has same 1.3 ltr unit but a kerb weight of 1010 kgs and 87 hp, is a little sluggish.
But esteem does not come with safety kits like ABS
True the car is out dated but still can play around easily with other so called "performance" cars in city traffic.
My friend has a cold air intake with remus free flow exhausts, and a fuel-air regulator and boy o boy is the car responsive! its is simply terrific! he gets a mileage of arnd 14 in city even after rash driving (i mean constant red lines to get a kick!!)
No wonder this car is still the king in the INRC in its respective segment. Actually there is no other 1.3 left.. And in all the speed runs you can see Zens with 1.3 esteem engines posting times of 14 secs!.. i’d say for a pro stock 1300cc unit those times are very good. Moreover this same G-series engine so versatile that it has been tweaked and been used on the swift, versa, and the gypsy!
