I safely say that SWIFT is the best looking car now available in India. But all of you please get inside and feel the swift. The insides are cramped, and back seat is horrible to say. The engine is reworked esteem engine, and if for 1010kg car it returns a mileage of 15kmpl/14kmpl, I am surprised why Maruti people just plonk that engine in esteem and see that car returns stratospjeric mileage as the car is atleast 200kgs less in weight that swift. (Swallow the claims with a pinch of salt).
Also Overdrive while testing had given a figure of 12kmpl in city and 20.4kmpl in highway. But in next issue itself they had done a comparison and given an average figure of 10.4kmpl. How this had changed?? Making fool of people who buy the magazine by hard earned money??
I beleive the findings of BSMotoring after reading Autocar, Overdrive etc. They give a realistic figure of 10-14kmpl overall which may be true.
The car is very much bulky and it will be an effort to drive the car in the city without having scratches.
The car makes real sporty sound when revved hard. But how many times you rev hard.
After driving the Swift and then Santro XING erlx, I am bowled over by santro erlx for its refinement, pulling in any gear, responsiveness of throttle , QUALITY etc.
MY only request to Hyundai is to offer Red and Yellow shades all across range in santro from XG onwards. It is cruel to offer red only in AT variant.
Coming back to Swift, the interior quality is so bad. The centre console always fowl with the leg of rear passenger and in due course will be thrown out of place as in Maruti800s. The steering has no raod feel at all, over assisted to say the least.
I had seen most comparos in this Swift section without really driving the car.
Some are realistic like the one from Trivandrum which the owner claims an average of 9.5kmpl and it may improve to 12 max. More than that requires double the air in the tyres and good riding habits.
I dont feel the mileage will improve very much as the car cannot be tuned as it has an ECU, it can only be reprogrammed. so dont expect much there.
