I just bought a Wagon-R for my wife and have strongly recommended the same to a friend. The following were my findings. By the way I own an Esteem LXI.
On road price: 3.72L (Insurance is free and not included)
Accessories: Mats, seat covers, rearview mirror(extra) sun film will come free if you have the guts to bargain with the dealer.
Interior: Very good. Plastics could have been better but for the price you pay, it is rather good
Space: Great when the seats are down. Its like a mini room. Two people can sleep with ease. Front left knee space is a little wanting. The seat adjustment facility is one of the best I have seen so far. Amazing.
Quality of upholstry: Very good
Airconditioner: Yeh!!!. Too good with a fantastic blower. It will blow you out of the car!! (Kidding). Just some advice: If you buy white then the A/C will be at its best. Even hot parking does not increase the heat inside. Head room: Wow. Tall guys can have fun.
Seating: Lovely. Good ergonomics. Good lumbar support. Great for oldies who have knee pain. Getting in and out is a breeze unlike the Esteem where you have to be a gymnast and fall into the seat!!!. I own the Esteem you see?.
Looks: I know most would feel aesthetics are wanting but take a good look at the facilities and the price and you will fall in love with it.
Engine capacity: 1060cc and 64 Bhp Great for its size. Feels very powerful and smoother than the Esteem!!!!. Over taking is easy. Power steering: Responsive and good at high speeds unlike the Santro which makes you feel unstable(I owned the santro too and sold it in three months)
Gear shifting: 5th and reverse need refinement. Otherwise OK. (Nothing to beat the Esteems gear shifting. Simply superb.)
Braking: Ha! if you are absent minded, no problem. It stops in a jiffy. The best breaking I have experienced so far!!! Better than my Esteem!!. Gives you great confidence. CG being high it is recommended to keep a little slow on curbs.
Fuel efficiency: 11Km in city drive. Out station drives: 16Kms/lt with AC ON. You have to maintain your engine well. All you need to do is change your oil and filter every 5000Kms religiously and I bet you will not need the mechanic for regular maintenance.
Value for money: out of 5
Cost of ownership: out of 5
Who should buy: People who do a lot of city driving and the old people.
Who should not buy: The status conscious, Rally drivers and outstation travellers.
I do not think any one would outgrow this car for city use. It is just fantastic.
