‘Mask of Zorro’ truly an actioned flick deals with Don Montero (Staurt Wilson) trying to buy California off. The story that drives the movie is that of the relationship between the elder Zorro (Anthony Hopkins) and the new Zorro (Antonio Banderas).
With each Zorro having their own problems to solve, the elder Zorro seeks revenge on Montero for killing his wife and stealing and raising his daughter. Young Zorro seeks revenge against a corrupt US Calvary man, Captain Love (Matthew Letscher), for killing his brother.
It’s more of a sword rather than a gun-toting movie, unlike many of the films currently playing all over, The Mask Of Zorro, makes for some exciting swashbuckling fun, onscreen. Sleek direction from director Martin Campbell keeps the flick, slick throughout. Campbell, has a knack for making so-old-its-cool type films, with his last film GoldenEye, which single-handedly revived the James Bond franchise. Anthony Hopkins, being one of the draws of the films proves that he can handle the sword as agile as he can act.
The perfect Zoro, Antonio Banderas lights up the screen with his usual charm, suaveness that obviously charmed his wife Melanie Griffith into marrying him.
Nuthing left to say much about Catherine Zestful Jones as Michael Douglas seems to have scored a perfect match, as Catherine is romantically attracted to Young Zorro, who is the daughter of Elder Zorro. Elena (Catherine Zeta Jones), has been stolen and raised by Don Montero, who slowly and steadily realizes her real self. The movie cudn’t have got a better pair then Antonio Banderas and Catherine ‘Zestful’ Jones.
All in all a good actioned swashbuckling sword fighting movie, with two Zorros for the price of one.
