Four years... I waited four years. Patiently, calmly. After all, the first Matrix completely absolutely blew me away. What a wonderful concept. We believe what we see/we see what we believe! Wow!
Four years later, I get all excited, the patience thins out and me & my friends buy tickets in advance to see the first day first show of MR. What a waste!
The problem with MR is that it will always be compared to M1. M1 introduced us to stupendous special effects, mind bending philosophies, made us question the way we think. MR already had an extremely tough act to follow. Although it would be next to impossible to give us any more new philosophies to boggle our minds, the least the Wachowski Brothers could have done was to build on M1.
All they did was what George Lucas has ended up doing to the Star Wars series - commercialize it and ruin the whole essence of the Matrix. Mind you - Im not against making money out of a movie, but I also believe that when you make a good movie - the money will follow. Case in point - M1.
And yes, MR has broken all box office records, but it also broke all the hopes weve held for all these years. I know that sounds corny, but thats exactly how it feels when you watch MR - corny! There is a 10-15 minute sex/rave scene with Neo and Trinity going at it. Completely unwanted & irrelevant to the plot.
Another scene where a woman says shell help Neo, if he kisses her like he kisses Trinity. HUH? When did MR end and Beverly Hills 90210 begin? The whole movie feels like a video game with the levels getting tougher as the movie progresses. I must say that the special effects are still great, but they drag on & on & they dont have the advantage of novelty and so instead of staring in awe, after a while you think, All right, get on with the movie already.
The movie ends just when it begins to get interesting. Yes the story moves forward a little bit, but the overall effect of the MR is not what I expected. For all those of you back home in India waiting anxiously for its release - spare yourselves the torture. Believe me, youll be disappointed.
