::The red pill to end all red pills::

This is my first serious film review and I start with the Matrix 3 : Revolutions... I wont reveal anything from the movie, except for suggesting that you see it at the nearest IMAX theatre. Don’t even think about a normal theatre -- you’ll have something to tell your grandchildren later:-)

’’Everything that has a beginning ... must have an end.’’

That is the one defining theme of the Matrix Revolutions. But sadly the movie does not keep to the theme, leaving people with more questions after the movie than before. But more on that later.

The Matrix is not just a movie... it’s a philosophy. It is the neverending, but all too natural, quest for answers in this inexplicable world. What is our purpose? Why are we born and why do we die? The Matrix relates to all these and more. So, just watching the movie would get you nowhere. You would probably not understand half the reasons why one of the characters acts the way it does. And so, to understand what the W Brothers want to get across to us, we must get the whole package. The Matrix compendium, if I may call it that, consists of 3 movies, 1 game ( ’’Enter the Matrix’’. Are any more due?), and quite a few animation sequences at ’ http://www.theanimatrix.com’, that explain the whole story.

The Matrix Explained ::

The Matrix is a virtual world. A simulation created by ’The Architect’, that is meant to con people into believing that they are free. In reality, humans in the world are being used as generators to power the machine world -- 01. During the war between the humans and the machines, the humans manage to block the sun with a huge cloud of smoke, effectively cutting of any source of power to the machines. In desperation, the machines design a method to harness the inherent energy stored in humans, using them as generators.

To create a perfect simulation, one needs all the variables that one may encounter along the way... but the human world is so complex, that this is not possible. Hence, there are always anomalies in the solution -- the non integral solution as The Architect calls it. Ergo, the only way the simulation can be propogated is to isolate these anomalies and periodically destroy them... and so Zion is born. This is where, all the variables which pop up unexpectedly are stored and then, at the end of the simulation life cycle, are destroyed.

It is in this context that The One emerges. He is the last anomaly in a cycle. The one anomaly that is capable of destroying the simulation. and he is the one with the choice. At the end of Reloaded, he is given that choice... return to the Machince Mainframe and help rebuild the next Zion, or return to the Matrix and watch as Zion is destroyed forever. Five times before, the one has been faced with this choice and all the times, he has returned to the source... but not this time. This time, Neo chooses to return to the matrix and save Zion himself.

Once you’ve taken the red pill, there’s no going back ::

Matrix Revolutions is not meant as a sequel of Matrix Reloaded, rather the two movies make up the sequel for Matrix I. Hence, Matrix III picks up directly from where Matrix II left off and continues the movie from there. The W Brothers were highly influenced by India philosophy and thinking -- specifically Buddhism and Vedanta. They have seamlessly fused the symbols of Christianity with the purpose of Hinduism and Buddhism to give a real treat for the mind. The whole Matrix experience is to drown in SFX pleasure during the whole movie but still have som e nagging questions to go back to once the movie has finished. In continuation with this tradition, M3 leaves a lot of questions unanswered, open to interpretation as it should be. The problem is choice. We believe only that we choose to believe, and the brothers dont intend to spoil it for us. So, we have to make up our own minds.

The effects in the movie are AWESOME. They are seriously engaging and cool. My mom really loved the movie... though she hasnt seen the first two editions and had no idea where the story was going. The graphics are that great. The sound track at the end of the movie is also cool, though you’d have to stay back in the theatre to listen to it, while everybody else walks out. Nice techno mix of ’Asatoma Sadgamaya’.

The Verdict ::

The Matrix Revolutions is a great movie, period. It has amazing special effects and awesome sound tracks. The final edition of the Matrix Triology is meant to end the series, and so, to understand the movie, a little background research is needed into the philosophy behind the Matrix. The series has lost it’s initiative during the second part but pulls back from the brink to give a stunning finish.

Wake up Neo......
