A wonderful story, an unthinkable climax, innumerable number of twists in the plot and wonderful characterisation..well these are all the hall mark of a great writer and Jeffrey archer certainly possess them..a class apart from the other authors indeed..Archer in this novel has come up with an almost unbelievable story which is sure to keep the reader spell bound and the reader craves for more and more of the authors works..so I think this would be the perfect novel for your child to start off with if he is beginner for this would make him ask for more..
It all begins with Adam scott an unemployed man in his late twenties inherits a meagre sum of money from his late father and along with it a thick fat envelope which would change his life in the course of the novel. His father writes in the letter inside the envelope the reason for his mysterious retirement from the military though he was one of the countrys hero in the second world war..Adam sets out on clearing his father name but finds himself in Geneva following the trail of the letter..and what does he get there??gold?pounds?dollars?none of the above but actually he is about to lose something more precious.he is about to lose his freedom.he is about be jailed for the reason of murder..and in matter of days he finds that the problem is concerned to himself but has become a reason for global security, for the Cold war has reached a high and if the letter falls in the hands of ruusians the americans are doomed and the Russians are not that easy to let off things like that..They send their most ruthless agent Alex Romanov to retrive the letter from Adam what ever the cost may be..Can Adam escape form the clutches of the Russian agent..whether Russia get hold of the fatefull letter??well go read the book to figure that out..
As far Jeffrey Archer is concerned it is just another masterpiece..a page turner right from the beginning you get so involved with the charcters that you laugh with them, cry with them, feel their pain and what not. With the cold war as setting he has brought to fore the Russain power and their ruthlessness..even if you want to consider yourself literate go read this one..
