Located centrally near Lalbagh Gardens of Bangalore, Namma MTR restaurant (or Mavalli Tiffin Restaurant), a pride of old Bangaloreans is famous for its quality and the service.
The high profile yester year political gurus and celebrities having lunch or dinner in black & white photos welcoming you at the entrance will tell you the glorious history of MTR.
While waiting at MTR to get your seat, you may wonder why people throng in here.
The quality of the food is too good and so the price is. They are not overtly priced also. The ghee topped be it an Idly or Poori are really mouth watering. Badam Halwa, Gheer, Puliyogare, name any food they are tasty and yummy.
To keep the trend with all the restaurants, they serve you in feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew minutes after your order. We may wonder whether their servers have got trained in Circus. Its an awful sight to watch them fill neatly placed breakable glasses at the edge of a big round tray and filling those glasses with cold water without picking up the glasses. Our BP may go up expecting they may break it. Thats a bonus show you get free out of the bills.
Recently MTR after getting hold of Spicy and Masala Powder business, they started chain of fast food joints.
I used to think a lot of times sitting at McDonalds or Pizza Corner, whether we will be able to deliver Indian foods in boxes. MTR the only innovative has tried it and its a success.
I was amazed when I saw the Masala Doza neatly wrapped into an Orange/Red stripped carton and its easy to eat that way without using your hands. Their stuffed vada is another FUNDA. It is also named as FUNDA. They are also serving their range of ready made foods.
I often wonder, a restaurant with such a caliber still believes in a technique of a small floor area with mirrors to have their fast food restaurant looks big. I have visited almost all their joints which they have opened recently and every one of them is a small stall. May be they think that will show a big crowd and more people will come. It may be appealing to the age old Bangaloreans. But with the highly populating crowd, they should think of a larger space.
If you are fuzzy about food or want to try the true Indian delicacy, MTR is yours.
Tips:
The restaurant near Lalbaugh is reachable by all means. If youre driving your own way, it is not yours. If you want to visit MTR restaurants old home, couple it with spending hours at Lalbagh or a show at Urvashi Theatre next to it.
You have to be there at 11, if you dont want to miss your lunch. They dont serve morning break fast and close early in the night at 7.30 to 8.
If you are not patient enough, visit their MTR fast food joints, at Commercial Street, FabMall at Forum, and ?Central Opp to Mayor Hall.
Also be wary of their copy cats like Mohan Tiffin Restaurant and Modern Tiffin Restaurant
