Maya - A Must Watch Horror Movie

Maya is a 2015 Tamil horror mystery film written and directed by debutant Ashwin Saravanam starring Nayantara, Aari, Amzath Khan, Lakshmi Priyaa, Chandramouli and Robo Shankar.

In the beginning of the movie we are introduced to Arjun who is a cartoonist and he works on a horror series. In the series there is a particular episode which focuses on a mental institution in a dark village named Mayavanam.  The death of a girl named Maya occurs due to the failure in operation. After that a series of mysterious death follows in the village.

Then we are introduced to Apsara who is a single mother staying with his friend and she is all set to try her luck in the film industry. But there is a connection between Apsara and the mysterious deaths which took place in Mayavanam village. Is there any connection between Maya and Apsara? The later part of the movie unfolds the mystery.

Maya is definitely a brilliant piece of work by Ashwin Saravanam and he proved his caliber with his very first movie itself. There are a lot of horror-comedy movies in Tamil, but movies completely concentrating on horror are rare. The screenplay is also very engaging and thrilling.

Technical part plays a major role in horror films and the technical team of Maya has done a fabulous job. The background score can be called as the DNA of any horror flick and Ron Ethan Yohaan’s background score worked big time. It helped to increase the mystery and suspense of the film. Editor TS Suresh has done a commendable job by his crisp and sharp cuts. Sathyan Sooryan’s cinematography adds extra beauty to the film and he avoided the conventional camera angles used in horror flicks.

When it comes to the performance Nayantara tops the list with a stunning performance.  You could see her in a sensible character role after a lot time that’s close to life. Aari also did a controlled performance and was comfortable in his role. Watch the movie from the theatre itself for a better experience.
