There are times when you dont go to watch a film without any expectations, but the outcome takes you by surprise. Mere Jeevan Saathi, directed by Suneel Darshan, is one film that falls into this category. The film is one of those fares that emphasises on content. In fact, the screenplay of this film, coupled with Karishmas bravua performance and songs, are the USPs of this enterprise.
Akshay plays Vicky, an aspiring pop singer. He is in love with Anjali (Amisha). Amisha’s character is that of a dedicated lover with hardly any other ambition in life than to love her man unconditionally.
Vicky gets a break when M.T. Music Company, owned by Molani (Gulshan Grover) and Tolani (Ashish Vidyarthi), signs him for musical shows. In the meantime, Vicky gets a meatier offer from a US-based music company. Vicky dumps Molani, Tolani for the American company Angel Music, and in doing so only makes them his enemies.
Vicky heads for the US. Natasha (Karisma Kapoor) is the CEO of Angel Music in New York. It turns out that she has harboured a crush on Vicky ever since their college days. In fact, it also turns out that Natasha has floated the company in order to let Vicky get his lucky break into the world of music and win his love in return.
As Natasha goes about helping Vicky with his musical shows, she also tries to make in-roads to his heart. In a moment of weakness, Vicky gives in to Natasha’s charms and the two end up making love.
Having put the noose in his own neck, Vicky now feels the prick of conscience about having betrayed his ladylove Anjali. He wants to be back with her but Natasha won’t let him be. Natasha begins intruding into Vicky’s life. She is neurotically obsessed about winning his love and ousting Anjali from his life. For this, she could kill or die.
Mere Jeevan Saathi is about a lonely girl who has everything in her life, while all she yearns for is her love. This is not the first time that we have witnessed a theme on such relationships. There was Aitraaz . But what makes Mere Jeevan Saathi different is the way the plot has been handled.
The initial reels set the ball rolling. After establishing the plot and the main characters, the story then diversifies as a love traiangle. It is only towards the interval point that the story actually picks up from where it began. If light moments dominate the first half, the second half tilts towards drama and emotions. And the drama is maintained right till the finale with several twist and turns.
Director Suneel Darshan is an uncomplicated story-teller. The plot is unique with a couple of dramatic sequences being exemplary. Notable among them being when Karishma confronts Akshay and reveals the murky past. Or, for that matter, when Akshay reveals the reality to Amisha in the pre-climax. Even the culmination of the story is just right and well treated.
The climax succeeds in making your heart reach out for Karishma and thats where the director scores.
But as the co-writer , he shouldve avoided concentrating too much on the music company in the first half. Even the villains track (Gulshan and Ashish Vidhyarthi) seems totally unwarranted.
Nadeem-Shravans music is among the USPs of this enterprise. The film has soulful music that is sure to remain etched in your memory for a long, long time. Dewaani and the title track are the pick of the lot.
The film has some of the most talented names in the business and it is Karishma Kapoor, in an author-backed role, who steals the show with a sterling performance. Her scenes with Akshay (second half) and Amisha (pre-climax) are simply outstanding. Heres a performance that is sure to win accolades from the junta and critics whole-heartedly.
Amisha is excellent, delivering the right expressions. Her expressive eyes convey a lot .Akshay Kumar is first-rate.
Cinematography is of standard. Dialogues are okay. Editing couldve been better. Production values are lavish. The makers have left no stone unturned in giving the film a lavish look and the money spent is visible in every frame.
A must see!!!
